I recently got a copy of pokemon leaf green that seems to have been translated from Japanese to English and comes complete with its own logo for the cart and title sceen which reads "Pokémon Pokémon Leaf Green" Not sure where Id post this but felt like sharing it here
Very neat! I always love looking at Pokemon bootleg carts. It depends on the translation, but they're usually pretty funny. I wonder if this came out in the 7 or so months before Fire Red/Leaf Green made it to the west...
I think it did come out between the dates and that's probally why they had to use custom logos and why there in the style of the Japanese logos, When I first got it I turned it on and where they had saved last was in front of a team rocket member who said something like "Bastard! Saw you there" I should have tooken a screenshot before I restarted it but didn't think about it. Also being a translation from the Japanese one names can only have 5 characters resulting in names like SQUIR, CHARM, BULBA, PIKA, etc. and attacks being abbreviated to things like W GUN for Water Gun
Wounder if this has ever been dumped like the other funny translations like this. Nice find tell us about any really funny dialog from the game you encounter (if any)
I tried to dump it using my acekard 2i and ruldolphs gba backup tool 0.21 which either wont work with acekard? or it could be because when I try to boot the game on a ds lite (ive tried 2 different ones) it does the Gameboy Advance bios bootup screen then changes to a white screen. Copy protection? It works perfectly in my gba and sp despite the cartridge looking as if it was poorly put together in the first place. The rom that it dumped (tried twice) came out as ____40.GBA the first time and the second time as something like X X X X X X X X X 9.GBA neither of which worked and looked like 32 megabyte shells. Anyway I do plan on starting over again more than likely and taking pictures of some of the conversations when I have free time after work or sometime.
My friend back in school had a badly translated version of gold that had swearing in it too lol, think he got it on holiday in spain. Was still sweet to be playing gold well before the EU release though
How ironic, copy protection on a bootleg. Thanks for trying to dump it and I look forward to seeing your screenshots.
I think it may not have dumped properly because its on an acekard I havnt found out if the tool works with acekard then again it is the first and only rom I've ever tried to dump (I got the tool because of the leaf green) so I havnt tried an official cart before. I plan on getting some screenshots soon EDIT: Gonna rip a real game so to figure out if its because of my flashcard EDIT2: The tool worked with a real cartridge so its not the acekard all I can guess is its copy protection bummer. Copy protection is actually somewhat common with certain pirate companys. They don't want the other bootleggers to make money off of there products.
It could be but there are too many incoherient sentences and misspellings leading me to believe it was probally done by someone who English definitely isn's one of there man languges making it really hard for me to believe it could just be a fan translation and the front piece of the cart has a custom mold at least which the front and back pieces of the cart don't really match up also with the front piece sitting a little lower then the back pieceand and im pretty sure theres not someone making custom gba cart molds in there basement for a fan translation not even in there native language so theres no doubt in my mind about this being from some pirate company out there EDIT: heres a few more pics of the cart EDIT2: Odd thing is that it uses an official back to the cart and an unofficial molded front you can tell by the font of GAMEBOY ADVANCE and space around it. At some point someone may have switched backs for whatever reason kept the front because of the label, This might also be why the front and back are a little mismatched. Has anyone ever experienced that?
If you open up the cart, you'll probably find that it's an original Nintendo PCB of some crappy GBA game they couldn't sell with the ROM chips swapped.
This reminds me of the Emerald bootleg called "Pocket Monster Pokemon Emerald" (multicart rip or cart dump (To get the cart dump to play in an emulator, simply change the first three bytes to 7F 00 00)). As for dumping that bootleg, I'd say to ask the people at Pirated Games Central. Bootlegs quite commonly have copy-protection, generally as there's no honor among thieves with bootlegs/title hacks of bootlegs being quite commonplace.
The screw on the cart was striped but I managed to get it open i took a pic of the pcb board I'm gonna post it setime tomorrow (i would do it now but its really late and I need to go to bed) but it isn't a rom switch its a full fledge bootleg the pcb doesn't say Nintendo or have the numbers. While I was at it I decided to give it a new case since the original was so sloppy i felt like i was gonna break it everyte i took it out. It was hell carving the inside of the new case to fit this pcb but now I don't have to feel like I'm gonna snap it
Heres a pic of the pcb Normally i would leave any thing i get in the original condition but on this one the cartridge was so poorly put together i didnt want to feel like i was gonna break it every time i take it out or put it in. So i decided to put it into another gba cart but due to the shape and size of the pcb i had to carve the inside of the cart to make it fit only problem is that i carved one spot i didnt need to thinking it was in the way of one of the chips anyway im going to be keeping it in a protective case so this doesnt bother me the cart is far more sturdy now and the label isn't slanted. part I shouldn't of carved (it was about 4 in the morning and wasn't thinking to straight) Anyway on to the the screenshots i decided to start i would just take pictures of all the text at the begining up too reciveing the pokedex (minus a couple of text that autoclicks for you like when it said "KYLE gained CHARM" and when the rival sent out his SQUIR calling the opponents FOE. Unfortunatly my SP died after the Rival battle and i need to find my SP charger so the pics will stop there for now. When i start it back up ill just replay to that point. All the text seen in the images are complete and not taken before it stoped typing. Rival was named GLOR just to watermark my images (and partial because in some of the Oak text i didnt quite make it to yet he says your name followed by your rivals with no space so why not have it say KYLEGLOR
If these are too much to load here is a link to it on imgur http://imgur.com/a/LA06w/all The pause screen has some humorous descriptions as well that I plan on taking pictures
I straigtend out an edge on the inside of the cart to make it look better Were the batteries used for anything other than saving? Opening screenshots part 2
