I think that they will make it but I think it will be like the 360 launch where there is a shortage of units to go around. I dont think they will let the xmas season pass them by this time because kids arnt going to wait another year to go next gen. They will be like screw it, mommy we want a wii and/or a 360. So yes i think they will push out some units to say they made it but I dont think they will be able to fill the supply and even then the units may be defunct. I think they really dropped the ball this time and MS and nintendo are gonna make them pay. :rambo:
I'm sure they'll make it but as usual it'll be a piss poor launch with little to no units. 50% will be defective a couple of months after launch... usual thing... I don't think for them it matters so much to be launched in time or not, for the lifespan of the console they are aiming at being the first on the market is not a priority. The PS2 was not first on the market and killed the likes of the Dreamcast. In any case the PS3 will sell. Sabre
The death of the DC really isn't a good comparison to how successful MS will or will not be. Sega didn't even have a fraction of the money MS has. At any rate, I'm sure Sony will make it, only there will be next to no consoles at their launch. Hopefully this spurs a lot of people to buy 360s instead!!!
I don`t think they will miss Japan and US launch dates. As usual the good old European`s will get stiffed again :noooo: I really hope that SONY loose shed loads of money, the machine flops need I say more I am sure that there will be faulty products in volumes. The problems that PSP had when launched, the alleged problems of the chips for it, the cost, the apparant u turn on the controller design, the late addition of motion sensitive controllers.................... I was never a keen follower of Sony gaming from a few months after the launch of the original Playstation and now I hate them even more. Roll on Microsoft as they have now got the hang of this gaming lark and really have made the on-line console gaming their own Nintendo can still be innovative and the Wii I hope will fly of the shelves. Rant over
The reason for the Europe delay was so that they can put all resources into getting the US and JP market out the door this Xmas. It sux living in Europe, if you're a gamer.
But hopefully they will have all the bugs worked out by the european launch. Of course I would assume that the bluray laser is going to go kaput after 2yrs of use regardless of whether they launch on time or not. Knowing their past console's, it won't be until a few years in until they have that problem resolved. Maybe you can hope for a price drop by the european launch:110:
Sony wont cancel at this point. THey would rather have 12 units out then nothing. Sony is falling apart at this point. Its not even like they delayed Europe to move resources to the US and Japan, in my opinion, they NEVER HAD THE RESOURCES!
true, they seem to be making the consoles to late in my view, ok guys we launch in october/november lets start make 3 million plus consoles in one month id be like wtf hang on we need longer silly fools buit yep europe gets the shaft again cheers sony
Just heard it on the BBC 6 O'clock news - Us poor Europeans have been butt raped yet again...... Didn't mention the States or the USA, but I bet they on't miss out. Sony are the worst company in the world for managing expectations. It'll be March 06, no it will be Nov '06, oh hang on - now it is March '07! Blamed it on short supply of chips.... Looks like we'll be importing our consoles from the States again.....
From my POV Sony are much better than Microsoft. Both are talking about offering programmers the chance of writing software for them, Microsoft want to charge you a yearly subscription and let you play in a sand box with c# or visual basic. While Sony are looking to let you run whatever Linux Apps you want. The PS3 is the first machine in a long time which looks like it might create a similar spark to the Amiga. Maybe I'm just being sentimental, but I reckon that if Sony pull it off then it would be "a good thing"(tm). Back in the day, the Atari ST had more CPU power than the Amiga and was cheaper. But the ST still lost. So lets just wait and see eh? smf
Uh sony never said they would release software to allow people develop on the PS3, did they? Sure, it has Linux, but so do countless other devices. A closed Linux-based <--Being the key, platform doesnt do anything for anyone
Frankly, if not getting the PS3 equals being Butt-Raped, then I'm all for forced sodomy. Believe me when I say you guys won't be missing anything worthwile anyway, and getting Sony consoles close to the first launch is pretty much suicide.
I think they'll make the holiday season. Sony has never been one to delay hardware to fix problems - they'd rather take advantage of the holiday season. I'm going to estimate that half of the units will live through the first year.
You are being kind, aren't you? :icon_bigg I dare to say that half or even more units won't last 6 months. Even if the PS3 costed 50 bucks, i would never buy it on the first year of production. Sony lack of quality is incredible. I still don't believe people will actually pay 600 dollars for it (or even more, since there will be a shortage at launch).
Seriously, whats with the linux obsession on consoles? I personally dont give a rats ass what runs on my console. The whole idea is that i dont see it, and i dont WANT to see it. For all i care the Xbox 360's dashboard could be linux based. I dont see it, i dont know it, and i dont WANT to see or know. Programming-wise i dont know what the advantage of running linux binaries would be either. Just give me a set of good libraries to work with and let me run it on the damn thing, using whatever OS it uses. Oh, and if its anything like the PS2's linux kit then please Sony, keep it to yourself. Seriously, does anyone actually work with that kit? The only people i know who have it used it once for novelty or keep it locked up for " the collection" .
If you want to develop for Linux, then there are plenty of PCs out there. If you want to develop for a console, then Microsoft's XNA is the closest thing you're going to see as a consumer to a current dev kit. -hl718
