Ok, I've got a job again (s*ck my balls!). I don't have any of the current gen consoles, and would like to get *some* (=undefined number, if happy even just one). But what console should I start with? I have been absent from the console world since the N64 / PSX era. Yes I know, I know. To cite : I was way off. So I have been thinking to get a console again for gaming, and not only for mods etc. But - which console? Gamecube I really liked. But then why not Wii, the heck, its compatible! Then there's this guy at the office who just bought GTA4, and keeps on bugging on how great it looks on his ps3 played on his flat tv. Then there's a friend who let me play xbox360 a few times, and that wasnt so bad either. Considering the fact that a) Wii is for kiddies b) PS3 is expensive c) xbox360 is MS i would like to get your opinion (=knowing im almost 30, but still dont like responsabilities, so im throwing it on you) : which console should I buy?
360 all the way if you wanna play, it has the best line up, Xbox live is fantastic, simple to use and very seamless!!! Reliability can be a problem, true. But even after an RROD and buying a Wii while waiting for my return, I still play 360 the most. PS3 would be my 2nd choice, primarely for the Bluray drive, game wise it doesn't bring anything more that the 360, the big downer being PSN and its completely disjointed service. Sadly for Sony MS is the benchmark for online gaming. MGS4 is the biggest temptation along with Little Big Planet for me. Wii would be third, got one, it's fun, especially when playing friends some great games like SM Galaxy, never played online cause really once you tasted services like Live and also Steam on PC you don't want to bother with anything else. Controls are fun but I haven't found any games that get me completely hooked yet on the system. In the end it all comes down to what type of gamer you are, every platform has something to offer. The 360 is just ticking all the right boxes for me.
I'd say the Xbox 360 is the best choice right now as it has the best game catalogue of this gen. The RROD is the main and almost the only disadvantage I can see. But then, if you haven't got any system since the N64, you could get a PS3 with b/c and use the huge PS2 catalogue, as there's plenty of nice games there. It has less interesting games than 360 but growing each day (I've really enjoyed Uncharted). PSN, being the first try of Sony at a serious online gaming service is not bad at all, even if it doesn't reach XBL level. It's free on the other hand though (I prefer it as I only play online once in a while).
PS3 you'll soon get bored of sending your 360 back and the will controls just get annoying after a bit.
Wii, follow your nintendo heart. PS3 is a good machine, but not a good gaming machine in my view. I d still buy one since I own a 360 and a Wii.
Ditto. PS3 has some decent exclusives coming up but most of them out now are mediocre. If you were to get a 360 you'd be getting it for 4 games really; Crackdown, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo. If none of them tickle your fancy get a PS3. As for the Wii, meh. Some good games but 90% of the games are shovelware and should be avoided.
360 - by far the best games available now (not games which may be good in 6 months time), and even though it is more than likely to break it is covered for 3 years with the RROD warranty.
The 360 is the cheap, well supported & most sensible choice software wise. Still a pile of shit manufacture wise and don't for a moment imagine you'll be fishing it out of your closet in say 20 years time for a shot. It'll pass to the next World before there's a single scratch on any of your games discs. When I hear the odd 'But my launch unit still running' I think 'and are we applauding that a console has managed to last this long considering I have units as old as most 360 users?' If MS ever release a more reliable model then snap it up as whilst it works the 360 is great fun. It's a real shame, I love it whilst it lasts! The PS3 is a fantastic unit, under rated and easy to slate. I am confident I will be fishing this out of my closet in 20 years time and wondering what would have happened if Sony had managed to get their act together over this console. A few titles are coming now that really do interest me, but it might not be your kind of thing. It gets more use than my 360 at present, but that's because I have a couple of titles I love to bits on it. As for the Wii. Again, easy to slate, but hard to ignore. For it's price, for it's robustness and longevity (your grandchildren will be digging this out of the closet and getting jiggy with Wiifit) it's a winner! My wife loves the Wii, I personally don't really care much for it. The current line-up of games titles have never captured my imagination. Choose your weapon!
probably because of the 360 manufacturing quality. just think how well the 360 would be doing if it had the build quality of say, the original Xbox. losing your 360 for months at a time gets old... fast... i voted 360 because i haven't had any problems with mine (except for the one i kinda caused... :lol. best games, best online, 99.9% of my friends have a 360. @Kammendo Do any of your friends have any of the current gen consoles? If they do, get the one they have so you can play with them. Playing with friends is the best.
if you play with friends, 360 hands down... if you only play by yourself, ps3 (only cause of blue-ray)... if you are 12 years old, wii (I would choose 360) Jeff
