I can't imagine a website like youtube back in the dial up days. I remember downloading a 10mb prank phone call audio clip (IIRC it was some woman complaining about picking up her car from something and there being a big turd in the back seat) that took ages to download and being amazed.
I've been very happy with Verizon FiOS. Always fast. Have had it for about a year and I haven't had it go down once.
They did a test in the UK on the 4G network and got a very nice 85MB/S download speed. then again it's only on trial in London and nobody is using it yet. My connection is pretty poor today with downloads only being 39MB/S and uploads being 55MB/S. It's normally twice that. Oh well, still good enough for perfect on-line gaming and streaming HD movies. So today I checked my PING to see if the line is actually clean. Great news
Will be getting upgraded from 20/30Mb to 60Mb between april and july this year for free as Virgin Media in the UK are doubling everyone's speed. Right now though i'm getting crap speeds even though i am on wifi with a good signal which normall is a bit faster than this.
That's a natural inhibitor. you also posted at a time when lots of people are on the internet. If you were on wired at a better time (early morning) you'd get good speeds.
I didn't read all the pages, but do I win? (^_^); Here is a second test, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I can actually get speeds into the 1000+ mb/s, however for some reason speedtest.net craps out and prints out a blank score card like this: I think it's a bug since the scorecard doesn't have space for the extra digit. They could just express it in gb/s but I guess they don't usually get people complaining about it.
I get 200 Kbps download and 20 Kbps upload max speed with Wild Blue satellite. I guess I win the slow internet contest?
