First of all, Valve announced that they WONT be showing Portal2 at the E3: Dear Subject Name Here,Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word “surprise”, of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise. If you’d like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve’s Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi. Thank you for < > PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise. It better be Episode 3 and not another L4D version... At the D8 engadget got some photos from what seems to be the production version of Natal/Wave The X360Slim was nowhere to be seen, but might be announced the night before E3, when we will also know if Natal will actually be called Wave.
Such a pointless device. unless it's free with a pack-in blockbuster killer app, it's dead in 9 months.
Meh, to be honest I think it will do fine, thanks to the countless buyers of wii crap out there. As far as we go, it wont mean a thing. EDIT: another sonic riders? WHY???!!:crying: and now with Natal support See what I was talking about?
Portal 2 from what I read is still going to be at E3. It's just that they canceled the special event to be replaced with another important game. Also that natal unit is ****ing huge... I wonder why it is so big. =/ If this thing really is the rumored $150 then this will bomb badly. It really needs to hit a $80ish sweet spot.
For spatial tracking, if you have the sensors set up right, you could do fake 3d POV with that unit. AFAIK it has two CCD sensors in it.
Yes I know that and you can even see both sensors & cam on the front of the unit. But the sensors are pretty close to the center. What is causing it to be so wide after that. Is it simply just because it's a proto and the sensor hw needs more space or simply just the tech is not advanced enough to be shrink into a smaller size (Like how digital cams/web cams use to be much larger then they are today). Either way, if that is the final size, that's pretty damn big.
Hopefully the reason for this is for Half Life 2 ep 3. It's been a good 3 years since the last ep was released. And I thought the whole point of them was to release the story quicker.
I think that HL has gone so far they dont know how to end it, theres a bunch of holes in it and honestly I dont see how one guy could defeat the combine... Not without deux ex machina kind of deal...
I agree. Its gone a bit off the tracks now. I liked the aspect of the story and how things were presented in Half Life 2 but ep 1 and 2 were pretty different. If I was valve I'd just make a Half Life 3 using new tech and end the story on that because lets face it now the Source engine is getting very outdated. I really dunno if presentation would be up to scratch if they used it again for the Half Life series. Its kind of different with Left 4 Dead I guess.
The tech in L4D2 doesnt looks half bad, plus releasing EP3 on Source means a lot of people would be able to play it with standard hardware. Besides AFAIK theres no news on a new engine from valve, guess they're too busy selling Steam to other devs.
Your right about the hardware point of view. I've yet to have a go on L4D2 although I was pretty impressed with Portal at the time it came out.
Microsoft doesn't seem to be good at selling an add-on that isn't native to the actual console. Take the HD-DVD drive for instance. The only thing, I can say about Natal is that the rumored price is not good.
It is a possibility, but then again how long it took MS to solve the problems in the original X360? The ending in EP1 was more of a cliffhanger, here we know eli is dead, and gordon and alyx are on their way to that boat that was supposedly going to be in the original HL2, but now has portal stuff all over it.
If you look at the side pic of natal, it has sensors there. Perhaps bluetooth or something to do with object interaction, like a sword baton or similar.
I don't know if it's possible to tell what's in Natal from that side picture. Look how much more rectangular it is than the other two pictures where the end cap is square. It's as if they used Photoshop to thin it down vertically.
