As stated in the thread over at GT, System Shock 2 looks fully complete. The "winsock.dll" inclusion is interesting. If they planned multiplayer, I wonder how complete it is?

The Thief 2 directory is odd. If this is an indication of the progress they made on the game then it was in the extremely early stages. The files in the list include "install.log," which is created during the PC version's installation, so it looks like they just copied the PC installation to the Katana. The abscence of the WinCE files either means the game wasn't at the point it could be tested or they linked to the files in the System Shock 2 folder. The later can be verified by viewing the HCD file created by GD-Workshop. If it was linked, a path will be present to the SS2 directory.

There was mention of missing binaries for Thief 2 over at the other forum. Looking through the files, ICD caught my attention since it has the full name of the game and is about the expected size of a Dreamcast binary. As far as I can tell from what I've found online, ICD is the main executable / binary, but in encrypted form. There still needs to be a bootstrap to decode it, but there doesn't appear to be one.

Side note for anyone wondering what "portal" is: it's a sample program included in the WinCE SDK.

Any new stuff for Dreamcast is well received.

I hope we can play something of this, finally. Thanks to the people for the work.

Excellent news! Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like SS2 could be released, but Thief isn't complete?

I think essentially what Dreamcast was saying is that Thief 2 is more likely in alpha state rather than in a beta state. Lest we forget it was barely announced before publishers began dropping support for DC like flies.

Or you can post whatever comes to mind here. You see, I have been monitoring this thread.

    Sincerely,

And no JamesMichael, I did not buy the dev kit from Mark. I communicated with him through AIM shortly after I bought the dev kit, but I lacked the computer hardware and further funds to do anything he told me about back then.

all utilities related to any dreamcast sdk were made only for windows operating systems and the beta you have was most probably developed on windows XP using the windows ce libraries for dreamcast.

    you mention the following:
1)you cannot get the devkit to reset.
2)no success in reflashing the unit.
3)the utilities can see the debug adapter but fail to read data from it.
4)freezes and lockups when you try to access the hardware using windows or the katana utilities.

It smells like a hardware problem on the debug adapter/gd-m board. Another board member (Felix Borman or something like that, can't really remember his name) had a similar problem years ago. I have been using my devkit for many years now with no scsi terminators on it and everything works perfectly.

Look, i have been saying this for something like 4 months now, it seems you have difficulties getting anything to work, let alone the fact that you have this thing sitting idle in a closet for 4-5 years now. It would be best if you shared the data on the internet with everybody, especially people who have 100% functioning devkits and teams that have got other unreleased games to work.

I know how to work with the katana sdk and would certainly like to toy around with the ce sdk. I am pretty confident i can get it to work on the devkit, verify that the executable is real and works and then pass tha data to other people who can produce a standard cd-r image.

But receiveing random errors / problems every once in a while does not really help the whole process to get anywhere. And frankly, i really do not like your way when there are easier and proven ways to go about this whole affair. I think other people share this view as well.

Frankly I don't care what other people think about how I choose to handle my own stuff. I seriously doubt you'd appreciate someone taking that kind of attitude with you about something you have in your possession VitAmen.

That said, I am inclined to think at this point that there could be a hardware problem with my dev kit. Reason being that the unit is detected by both the SCSI adaptor and Windows XP as is indicated that it should be in the SDK read me file. The fact that I know the HDD to be functional from when I pulled it back in the spring indicates some manner of communications issue with the system since Windows can see the unit's HDD but not access the data thereon.

Well, it is September, and that being the case any of you up on your DC history should have a special date now in mind associated with a numeric value, that could unfortunately be easily mitaken for a day of tragedy, to stay tuned for. ;)

How did you solve your problem about the installation of the wnaspi dll ? There are a lot of versions of wnaspi, so that might have an impact too...
There's a guide & a wnaspi replacement dll made specially for the Katana devkit on Windows7 64 bits in the sticky posts of the "Sega Dreamcast" forum if you want to give it a try on Win7...
