Come on bro, he never had to announce this find in the first place, lets be content with being fortunate enough that he is trying to get this thing to the community in the first place.

If that's how you feel then stop badgering him and leave the whole issue alone. No one is wasting your time but you yourself.

I can only wish you good luck gamer_s and enjoy tinkering with what you have :).

    Don't let anyone rush you.

This thread prompted me to get stuck back into Thief again after a few years of not playing (I had to jump through a lot of hurdles to get it working on Win 7 with multi-core). There is simply nothing like it, even for a game that's getting on a bit now, it's still got such a unique quality.

Sorry for the mix up gamer s I didn't realise it wasn't Mark you got it off. And as for other members being annoyed hes not released anything. At the end of the day its been good of him to release such information that the games even existed to begin with! As some collectors would find such treasures and keep them hidden from the public eye. And even if development is moving slower than people want it to you have to realise that gamer s has a life and most likely does not all the time in the world to spend on getting the games to work. Remember kids the Mother 3 disks took a good 2 year to find out what was going on. So just sit back and enjoy the updates :)

last night i got half life running on my box in about 15 MINUTES and it is a wince game just like shock 2...you do not even need the damn wince sdk to do this...if you do not want to share and cooperate in a _meaningful_ way why do you ask for other people's help in the first place.

Please play nice, else you won't get any cake.
And by cake, I mean betas.
And by betas, I mean sympathy from other members.

In all honesty, your postings in this thread have been both rude and uncourteous. Just because you think you know better than everyone else on the subject doesn't mean it instantly gives you the right to get into a huff. If you really wanted to help you could have said 'Would you like me to take a look at it?' rather than words amounting to 'you're doing it wrong, gimme else I'll moan all day'. Gamer_s asked for help because he's having difficulty extracting the content via SCSI, and all you've shown is ungratefulness.

I'm sorry to hear that you're desperate to test this beta, but it's better to take things slowly rather than rush it and accidentally wipe out the only copy of something potentially important.

I am sorry mr mooseblaster, but i was always ready to answer any questions regarding the matter and have been offering all the help i can for something like 4 months now, you do not have the slightest idea of what you are talking about. From the start it was evident that our friend had problems so i have been advocating that he should put it online so that everybody can work with it. We got all kinds of ridiculous excuses when to me it is evident that it is when you seek profit that you avoid to share. But in this case, you should dive into the hole yourself, do not expect others to help you.

Wipe out the only copy? By making it available freely on the net to anybody so that people can work with it, how are you going to wipe it out. It seems to me that you 've got it all wrong. And remember, there are even people out there who are rewriting the Dark engine and kindly asked for the data, but of course they got nothing.

And i do not _think_ i know better than most here. Let's say i am pretty knowledgeable about how the dc hardware works and i am offering this knowledge from day one, not to mention the toolchain i am about to release the following months. All i get back is immaturity and "oh get lost this is mine, you'll have to wait another 10 years till i manage to get it done despite the fact that it is a week's work at most to release it".

Like i said earlier...15 minutes to get halflife to work, just sit there and wait...and prepare some $$$$ because despite any help you will give, i think you will need it in the end.

Riiight, because I'm honestly too much of a dunderhead to be able to read the thread on DCT, and wouldn't be able to easily identify you as the user 'sin'.

Personally, I don't see 'haven't got a lot of time to give' and 'SCSI card is bust' as particularly ridiculous. I myself have several projects that have been on the go for a few years, but failed to achieve much progress.

By incorrectly handling the hard drive whilst trying to extract it. I'm sorry if this is a touch technical, but I'll try and explain as simply as I can. SCSI drives are very fast, and as such were quite popular in industrial machines (such as DTP houses, dev boxes, etc.). This is because, unlike an IDE drive, a SCSI drive is directly manipulated by the computer (without a 'safeguard' on the drive) so that commands are instantly done rather than being double checked. The user relies solely on the OS and the controller card to stop an incorrect command from being sent to the drive and wiping important drive information (which may be recoverable, admittedly) or accidentally rewriting bytes of data (which would sadly be not). I've seen several cases over the years of faulty controller cards that have had a devastating effect on the data, where the system has plastered a malformed block over an important file or munched over a file when the computer has frozen.

Yes, but you took a very poor approach to offering your help. You appeared on DCT one day, said something along the lines of 'Oh, I have a DC box too. Send me your files and I'll check them out' and then were surprised and seemingly infuriated when people responded 'if we need help, we'll ask someone with more reputation in the community'.

Now that gamer_s has received the part and successfully able to fit it, he is asking for some help trying to get the Katana running, and you repeat the same offer you had before and are *still* surprised that people don't share your view, or are sympathetic when you badmouth others (including, as it appears, myself).

If, as you infer, gamer_s is a scam artist, then consider many of us here duped. However, at present the only person who's reputation is being harmed by this stuff is you.

I'm not attempting to start a fight here, I just want people to treat others with respect and patience. We're not paying him anything to do this, and believe me the people around here have waited a lot longer between announcement and release of betas. His only mistake he's made so far was announcing his findings too soon, so that people end up getting on his case to release it.

i feel sorry for your ignorant kind, but still, i love you.
and i really liked the part with the 'technical touch'...i think you think you got sth goin'...i have heard you can damage drives just by looking at them and propagating your electromagnetic vibes...

You keep going like this and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't release it at all. He doesn't owe any of us anything - something you've clearly forgotten.

    gamer s, take your time.

vitAmen, You are an asshole plain and simple. It doesn't matter what you think of your technical skills. In the end you're just a complete cock. Leave it alone, you're not going to get what you want so stop whining and grow the fuck up.

He wants to handle it on his own, I think that's admirable even if it does take a considerable amount of time and investment of skills that he may not even have at the moment. Hell maybe he's looking to learn something out of all this and that's his motivator. How could anyone argue with that? Oh wait that's right, you're an irrational jerkoff with god like powers to know what no other can when it comes to dumping DC programming.

I think these are just the regular files from his HDD, I think we still need someone to make a CDI of it. Mine is still downloading, so I can't be sure what the files are just yet.
