Possible betas of system shock 2 and thief 2 for dreamcast found!

    Indeed, but it is always nice to be able to put an answer to such a big mystery.

    Shame it isn't playable in a complete form, but I am happy to have solved this mystery.

    What a pity! :/ Anyway, could anybody please upload a clean and working cdi-image of SS2? I would love to see some SS2 code running on my DC! ;-)

    tried to make a cdi and boot, but only shows a black screen.

    i ve copied the game files from the GD rom folder to the root, and deleted the folder, but what i do for de allobjs and shock 2 exe folders, disc session tracks folders, and the .vcd .hcd files?

    and actually vatical missed the deadline, instead of only have a news about the announcement.

    i ve created a 1st_read.bin with bincon, in a win 98 emulated with virtual pc, since i don´t know anythign about programing language, even using pascal c to create a new exe in win32 it didn´t work.

    or at least something, the videos framreate are kinda low, i ve passed from the loading times, but they are freaking long, and there is only a corridor, you cant interact and the trigger have wrong control configuration, lt was supossed to shot and lt to shift, but they turn the player, left and right, like dreamcast said.

    but the pc version (at least with the hd models) have the same files with same sizes, i will download the non modified version.

    i ve tested the dromED, it crash if you come close to the door in bulkhead, and the monster in the test room, but the maps on the editor are fully textured

    OPS1_.MIS is kinda interesting, ops1.mis and him are the same files, and they work in the same way in the editor,same sizes, the date are the same 14/7/1999, the only difference is the hour made, ops1_.MIS is 12:14, ops1.mis is from 06:14, looks like it was accidentaly duplicated.

    maybe there is a way to load anoter maps, but you have to wait long times, bulkhead corridor took about 10 minutes to load, and try to make the controls work.

    ports should not take too much time, and it was being made with wince, even it had some problems.

    and by the date of the winceos, 18/08/00, the port should be at an advanced stage of development, or a delay would be imminent, and that happened, vatical said in 2001 that the port was not cancelled, but the future was uncertain.

    hey dreamcast when you said that the newest exes have the controls enabled, i ve thought, maybe i find the reason of the game loading only the ops1.mis level, and found, this words on notepad

    first_level ops1.mis, unfortunately if you rename the ops1.mis to other .mis, save, and burn a disc the game won´t pass from the sega logo.

    hey pato I would love to help you, but I'm really a noob when it comes to dreamcast. I have sysem shock 2 installed on my computer "cd on old 95" taking a quote from you "but the pc version (at least with the hd models) have the same files with same sizes, i will download the non modified version." if you want I can upload the folders to you.

    thanks man, but i don´t need it now, if i need i will find, since the files have the same date and size, so its only the models that are upgraded.

    the reason of the game only loads the ops1.mis and try to load different map but with this name its because of the exe, but i ve didn´t have luck to use the rick2.mis, which is only 1,07mb, only the original maps for dreamcast.

    the exe not only do what i ve said above, it don´t activate the AI and possible screw with the fps and loading

    if you try any dreamcast map to the system shock 2 editor, they will run at full speed with textures, and ai, like the pc version.

    i think any pc version will match the dreamcast, by the maps files, dates and sizes.

    bad news even using a hex editor, change the .mis from first_level is useless, they do the same results of renaming the .mis file, they do not load entirely after all, looks like it would only loads .mis which max size is 857kb, which explains why the game did run the ops1.mis 857kb and ops1.mis 358kb, even using a fan mission .mis that is less than 857kb, it will load until near end.

    hmm, i ve modfied the fist_ level from the .exe for the pc version, making load annother map, it loads perfectly.

    it would be nice to know which file makes make the actions, like opening doors.

    well, i ve done some thins today ive managed to make the loading VB disc turns and now is grey color like the pc version, and AI in the test level, but the ninja wont attack if you come close, however loading and framerate still slow, and now the menu lacks multiplayer and there is nothing in options except for a non working gamma config.

    if you wanna do this, you need the create the bitmap, book, mesh, obj, objicon, fonts, fam intrface folders, and extract the .bin files with the same name from 1999 date to the matching folder EX: extract mesh.bin contents to the mesh folder

    and delete the .zip files with also the same name like mesh.zip which they are from 08/2000.
