That's what I hear. Might just get a genesis model 1 and region mod it to save on costs of buying a Japanese mega drive.

 

My guess would be that it's broken. MCD1's are really fragile, even shipping them from one continent to another can be dangerous if it isn't packaged really carefully. Good luck on testing it, but I'd already check for spareparts

But ignoring the problems people often have with these units, it's a wonderful MCD unit and beats the MCD2's looks a thousand times. It's still bulky and a weird-looking piece of technology with the MD&32X on top, but at least it doesn't look like a cheap 90's CD-radio combination, unlike its 2nd incarnation.

 

Opened it up and everything looked intact and perfect working condition(Cleanest I have ever seen a used system look on the inside). Even had a mint copy of vay in the tray.

What is funny about this thrift shop I go to is it is in a good part of town and they often get stuff donated from the better parts of town(they come and pick your stuff up it's a veterans thrift store), so it is not uncommon for them to get a ps3 or 360, or a video game stuff in good condition or fully boxed up(I have gotten some crazy deals there).

Hell I have even seen laserdisc players there from various types. Interestingly it has a socket-ed eeprom bios. Not sure if this is common on japanese mega cd 1's.

 

MCD2 looked like total shit. Use it in conjunction with MD 1 and it hung off and you had to get an extender so It didnt look daft. What a piece of crap.

While the missus was shopping I popped in to Hard Off just to have a look around since I've got no money. However I found a mint Dead or Alive 4 for only 150 yen!! Yes, 150 yen and it had the lovely card slip case. So I took the game to the counter expecting them to tell me it should be 1500 yen (still a good price) but no, 150 yen

100% mint. Not a mark on the disc at all. If this was shrink wrapped you'd swear it was brand new.

It cost 150 yen (2 USD), the going rate is about 1500 to 2000 yen for this game in pure mint condition with slip case. I'm sure you can get a few copies for 10-15 $ but I know too well that western used games are a disgrace. Dirty, scratched and in some cases cracked. Plus 360 games are cheaper in the west. Japan is very expensive for 360 games. I import all my games from Asia if they are not Japanese exclusive titles. Even after shipping from Asia I still save on average about 2000 yen. That's about 25 USD :drool:

Well finally decided to go to a local game shop and buy a model 1 gensis and did a region mod. I am happy to say the mega cd works perfectly! Best $7 I ever spent!

 

Picked up DiRT 3 on the 360 despite having it on PC though on the 360 it'll be me and my bro-in-law playing through it as we did with DiRT 2 so should be a bit more fun.

Not sure if i mentioned this before but also recently got 2 LOTR games along with Mortal Komabt Deadly Alliance both on the PS2.

You found the only Super Famicom in SD, and now possibly the only Mega CD too.

 

Picked up a Logitech Driving Force Pro from gamestation - It's the PS2 GT wheel that also works with PC. Too bad i didn't check before purchasing as it is missing the power plug so had to spend money on ebay to get one.
