This might explain why my collection's absolute shit, but for me "deal"="free". This started when I used to live in England, and the school were upgrading to PCs (back when a Pentium 100 was good) - I got a ZX Spectrum +2 plus loads of games for free. Then I got bored with that, so I traded it with my friend (who also availed of the school's free computer bonanza) for an Acorn BBC Micro Model B, with a 5.25" floppy frive and loads of (all copied, of course) games! Sadly it died in 1999, and I did the retarded thing of throwing it out (still have the FDD and games though). And I never even got Elite!

Then my quest for free gameage continued. And when I moved over here my uncle was in his car-boot sale phase - I got a NES (complete, unboxed, no games), an SMS II (built-in Sonic, nothing else), another ZX Spectrum +2 (full of sand, somehow, but still kinda worked), and a Binatone TV Master (pong clone) all for nothing! I got TMNT for the NES (PAL), boxed, still with the polystyrene in the box, off this really old guy selling complete junk, for an amazing £2.

I also got SMB3 for the NES, another NES (boxed), a PlayStation with 3 controllers, a 486 PC (with a CD-ROM drive!!), and a Pentium II PC with a dead PSU, all for free! I also have a (what seems to be) temporarily-permanent loan of a Dreamcast and about 15 games (including Shenmue 2), and I've just remembered my uncle has two (one possibly non-working) Saturns in his garage! I hope my cousins break his PC again so I have to come down there and fix it some time soon...

My quest now is to get a free Mega Drive and possibly games (or at least Sonic 2). Oh, how I miss my Mega Drive. I had one, with 2 controllers, 2 SIX-BUTTON controllers (and SFII: Champion Edition to make them actually useful), an arcade stick and at least 16 games, but sold it for a ludicrous £60 in 1997 to save for a crappy PS. I'll hate myself forever for that... :-(

Hopefully I've learnt from my mistakes, and I promise my Game Gear's not leaving my house for AT LEAST another 10 years!

Pretty much everything I've listed (that I actually own) is still all worthless crap though. It's not fair, all my friends have the good stuff! I know three PAL Dreamcast owners, 2 PAL Saturn owners (one has Panzer Dragoon Saga, FFS!), and someone with both PAL Suikoden 1 *and* 2!

There was a toystore I used to work at. When I got there the first time, I saw a few boxed Megadrive units on top of the lockers. When I asked what these Megadrive's were doing there, my boss said they have been there for years and I could take them with me if i wanted to. So, I went home with 3 brand new, never opened, PAL Megadrive II consoles. Everything, I mean everything, was brand new and never opened.

I also got my Samba de Amigo PAL boxset about 2 years ago. It was complete, and everything was in great condition (except for some markings on the big box). I got the SDA PAL Boxset, and I gave him King of Fighters 99 Dreammatch, Virtual On for Japanese Dreamcast + 25 euros.

And, 2 weeks ago, I got Burning Rangers PAL for only 15 euros.

I got some uncommon 2600 and Intellivision shrinkwrapped for free, the Adventure of Rookie cart for 2 really common psx games, Go Go Ackman 2 complete for $4 and 50 video game manga books for $100 (The books were purchased at 2 different locations on the same day).

Some guy at Segaforum was selling it :) He also lived in Amsterdam, so it was quite easy for me to go and pick it up. It now sits in my display case next to Guardian Heroes, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Dragonball Z Legends :)

I was in a Gamestop once and I overheard the guy behind the counter telling a customer "no, sorry, we can't buy that back".

I whirled around to see what it was, and it was a CDX. I asked the guy if he'd sell it to me, and he said sure, but asked how much I'd buy it for.

I opened my wallet, only had $10, offered him the $10, and he took it. Made my day. The fact that Gamestop was selling the Document of MGS2 for $4.99 (of course I bought it) only helped things :-D

I also got a Game Boy Camera for 500 yen NIB in Himeji. That was pretty cool.

Toys R us was selling Ikaruga, but since it wasnt selling, they lowere the ptice to 12.99 instead of 39.99. I got it REAL cheap, since most kids are casual gamers, and laugh at the name Ikaruga, because they think it is a dumb name. A little Bittersweet IMO... :-(
That game is freaking hard, too, IMO. Well, one day I shall master the black and wite powers of the ship, and become one...with my inner shooter spirit.

I got Silpheed the lost planet for $3.99 at the toys r us in Texarkana. AWS, I would advise you go there, because they are putting really good games on ridiculously low prices, just because the casual gamers wouldnt buy them. A little bittersweet IMO...

I love a good brag thread... some of the better deals I can think of, sorry it's not just one & mostly not recent.

~110 DC/PS/PS2/audio promos in a falling-to-bits box. £10 (I thought he meant each at first ;) Looked to be some kind of damaged delivery. Loads of dupes & mostly audio CDs. Seller didn't understand what a Dreamcast was... the box seemed to be mostly DC promos in black plastic boxes but digging underneath there were a good deal of PS promos & a single PS2 promo.

Game & Watch Ball & Fire, free from seller when I bought 10 boxed FVG168 famiclones for £5 each.

Minty Shining Force III £2.99 back when our Cash Generator was good & my Saturn collection was tiny.

Boxed nice MD & ~35 boxed games £5 Chelford car boot, Cheshire.

Mega Man Wily Wars £5 Bowlers car boot(rip) game stall.

TRS80-4P, free from a friend who found a skip(!) with at least another 10 in but could only carry one for me & one for himself ;) Skip gone when he went back.

All my dev stuff except Jaguar & very recent stuff = free.

I've been doing this stuff too long, I've loads of things I could write here ;)

I have had a few OK deals, which include:

    -New PAL Saturn for A$50

-New PAL Saturn for A$50 but it was a UK import so it had the excellent officical RGB SCART cable, I only bought it for that cable so I got the system as a bonus. :)

    -Mario RPG SNES (mint) US$30

-Metal Slug SS (missing obi card) US$30

-Hyper Duel SS (mint and complete) US$49

-Panzer Dragoon Saga SS PAL (mint) for A$60

-Chrono Trigger SNES (mint but missing map) US$30

    -Kingdom Grandpix SS sealed US$40

-traded a spare copy of M vs SF SS for Gradius Deluxe Pack, Salamander Delux Pack plus and Fatal Fury 3, I mainly wanted the first two so the third was a bonus even if it is not very good.

    Cheers

    Luke

If only those games were Sonic CD and Snatcher... :smt042

I (once) bought an U64 board + devkit (2.0I manuals + 2.0K OS) from someone over at www.nekochan.net (which afterwards turned out to be just partially working) for $300 included shipping from US to italy.
Still wondering today why i did that after all... :angry
A while after that, i reposted another "wanted" for an U64 board, and got in contact with a japanese guy who said there was one in akihabara...and you could get it for like 5$.... :smt082 of course, there was a high probability that the board could have been fried, broken....but i thought, wtf, it's 5$ for the board + $10 for the guy + $10 for the shipment (which makes me thinking again about why i oh just why accepted to let me ship a _non working_ u64 bard for like $100 from US.. :smt022, but i guess faults are here to let you learn from them... ), and got him to buy it...
well, i tried it today and (WOW) it W-O-R-K-S flawless! once i'llget to know how to set up NFS so that it works i'll post some screens :-D
    :smt082 :smt082 :smt082
Believe it or not, there's a God out there somewhere :smt042

There is... otherwise I wouldn't have got two copies of PD Saga in one month :-D

First, the US one: traded a Saturn Street Fighter Zero 3 boxset against Panzer Dragoon, Zwei, and Saga all mint US versions

And now a PAL one too, complete near mint in trade for my SNES backup unit

My best score is probably a white Japanese Sega Saturn, with two controllers, a V-Saturn controller, a stepdown convertor and an original sega VCD card for $20Aus. I couldn't give the bloke my money quick enough when he told me how much he wanted.

I also found a boxed complete with map Phantasy Star Gaiden for Gamegear for $10 Aus. I only bought it because I'd have a hunch that it'd be worth a bit on eBay. Ended up selling it for $75Aus.
