Found this while on delivery at my job. Someone just threw out a perfectly good 360, a carbon fiber faceplate, two headsets, a 20gb hard drive, all the cables and a copy of Halo 3. The guy said it was busted but I found all it needed was a simple cleaning.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people will just throw shit away at the first sign of trouble, without even thinking of giving it the once over, and just buy new instead. Seems horribly wasteful to me, but I guess they just have different time vs. money priorities. Great score, anyway.

I think I've said the story about how I got my PS3 but I'll say it again.

I bought a cheap 60gb ps3 for £5 on the grounds of ''CD doesn't spin''. I went to his house to pick it up. He failed to tell me he had gone apeshit on the case with a replica katana. Needless to say I took it home. had a poke around inside and found (I think) he unplugged a cable that gave power to the motor etc. Blurays played just fine and thats all I ever used it for. Never once played a game on it. Ended up selling it after there were no blurays I wanted for a while.

I don't understand why people just chuck things out at the first sign of problems even if they are simple connecting it up wrong or it needing a clean? If i was like that my xbox 360 would have been gone a few days ago when i connected it to my new TV via component and didn't get a picture only sound.

I remember being told by a friend of my family (Just when our TV died off all times) that someone they knew got a 50" plasma or may have been an LCD TV that was fully working and all it was chucked out for was having a busted stand. I think he said worked in recycling or something like that which is how he got it.

Anyway i picked up a Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience wheel yesterday mainly for PC games but if i ever get a PS3 it'll work with that too. Did want a Logitech Driving Force GT but £99 was a bit too much so got the Thrustmaster and since i am not a hardcore sim racer it will be fine for me.

The last flea market I went I got:

    a 3D0 + cables + 2 controllers + 35 original games without case, just the CD for R$10 (something like $4)

Got a Japanese Sega CD without cables for R$10.

    2 SNES + 3 Controllers + cables + AC adapter + 5 games for R$30 = $13

The only problem is that this flea market only happens once a year here in BR.

Just got a free PC, Core2Duo 2,0 GHz, 1GB Ram, old Nvidia 7300. Just had to help a bit with carrying and catalogizing. :D
The people got 55 PCs for free, from old PIII over Athlon over Pentium4 up to Core2Duo 2,4 GHz (the best CPU, a Q6600 is not working unfortuantely)...
Plus some Dell servers with two PIIIs, a RAID server for 16 SATA HDDs, a few NAS servers and more! All from a software dev company, unfortunately without HDDs.
Incredible, what admins throw away, literally. The flat of my friends is full of computers now.

Woman at work 6 months ago says "can I bring my computer into work" and I go "sure, what's wrong with it?" (I do IT support by the way and I help out my colleagues with their personal devices etc.). Anyway she says she wants to donate it to us. I offer to pop over and pick it up expecting it to be crappy dusty P3 machine, she does mention "dual something" but that could've been cd drive etc... It's a mint Dell Inspiron 530 running a dual core processor and 200GB HD 19" flat widescreen monitor printer scanner subwoofer keyboard mouse all cables etc... looks like it's been used about twice.

Ofc I swap the processor for the fastest Core II Duo I can find and I whack in a 10K rpm raptor drive as the main on Win7 64bit. Now got it running dual display through an overclocked ATi graphics card. Total money spent: £40 on the videocard and I get about 6 on windows bench.

Best part of it is the tequila, wine and sake bottles she gave me for picking it up!

Exactly. I was expecting it to not be working. i figured $30 for a broken Jag CD was a deal. i might be able to fix it.. but i plugged it in and it loaded right up. The guy i bought it from had a near complete jag and jag cd collection. im trying to get more money so i can go back and pick up more stuff.

My grandparents used to work in an Oxfam shop and the amount of old videogame stuff people donate is crazy and most oxfam stores can't sell electronics so they just bin them. My grandad used to go down the bins when he worked there and foudn masses of stuff, boxed Snes with games, boxed megadrive II with games, about a million different gameboys. Oh and he also found me a sega saturn complete with about five games for £5 at some manner of jumble sale
