Well many of you may recall me asking how to paint a console, and various other questions on how to do other mods. Today, I've finally got 75% of my mod complete.
This XBOX has a theme, I'm following the colors of Power Girl's outfit which consists of White, Blue, Red and Gold. I've had many thoughts, and designs over the past few weeks and have now got a final idea.

Like I said earlier the mod is now 75% complete, the console body is now complete (apart from the DVD Bezel). The body was painted with VHT Vinyl Dye/Spray with 3 coats. The dye is usually used for car interiors and trim. I choose Vinyl Dye for the fact of that dye soaks into the plastic, as for spray paint sits on the top of the painted surface. This allows the original texture of the plastic preserved and also doesn't require any use of sand paper. As the XBOX has 2 different surfaces of plastic, grain and smooth the dye soaked into both without any issues resulting in a beautiful finish.

The jewel is now complete as well. I'm leaving it crystal clear as it looks great with the deep white background instead of being painted in gold. As most gold paint looks rather tacky, it's most likely a better option.

DVD Bezel will just need the lettering/logo gone over in gold paint pen to bring out the letters better, also sticking to the color scheme I've planned.
Eject and Power buttons will be painted gold.

Now with that all sorted out and complete all it needs is it's art and controller ports. I've designed a vinyl which will be placed on the "X" part of the top part of the case, it features Power Girl and the logo from issue #27 (edited of course). Vinyl is also solid white. The controller ports will have red and blue LEDs inside all 4 ports, as per the usual 1 color people choose.

It's a bit blurry since the print builder on the site is bollocks and possibility the images I made were too high res :p

LOL Synrgy your posts never stop making me laugh. Don't worry boobs are coming bro ;)

I've heard people mention vinyl dye with regards to painting consoles.... seems like it does the job. I assume that was a standard black Xbox that you've turned white?

It seems to me it's a much better result than paint, it does easily mark which isn't great if you move your systems around a lot. You can see a small mark on the front of the switch area in the image below, I'll have to touch it up. Of course it was, you'd see that in the video logs ;)

Just a little update with the buttons here, I've painted the buttons gold and damn it came out so well. I used the paint my sister uses on her cosplays XD

That sure is coming along nicely! I'll probably end up doing something with those vinyl paints to a Mega Drive or two.
Would it be possible perhaps to use the nice vinyl paint and then lacquer the hell out of it?
I seem to remember that lacquer used to solve all sorts of problems in wood work back in the day hahaha.
    Oh that, and putty!

Maybe you can base one off an MSX :) Some models had funky keyboards.

Thanks man! Not sure if Lacquer would work, it could but who knows. There is clear gloss paint you can go over it with. Not sure what the result of that stuff is with plastic, but Vinyl Dye acts as a great base for standard spray paint.

Here is before/after photo of the case. The right side is when I got the system (without cleaning) and the other side explains it's self.
The system still isn't finished, damn ports and vinyl are taking their time. Hopefully the finish product will look nice.

With some conversation with Bad_Ad84, I may change the light ring. With half colours (Red/Blue) since two LEDs are on the switch board. Still thinking about that though.

you see that light greenish tint in your picture?
I hope it's just from the lighting, but I fear that you are seeing a problem from the case itself.
The Xboxes, or at least most of them, weren't just plain black, they had a faint greenish hue to them. Apparently this came from some chemical mixed into the plastic to make it less brittle (some kind of softener).
On a german forum someone made a paint run of xboxes with automotive paint and he found out that by just spraying them silver the paint would pull that chemical out of the plastic - he ended up with green swirls in the paintjob.
The trick is to first use a filler to seal all pores and than proceed with painting, you lose the rough texture by doing that though.
It seems that later cases (1.6) do not have this greenish hue anymore, or some boxes I've seen used replacement cases. It was very pronounced on my 2001 Mexico box though, also on the original Dukes.

I don't see any greenish tint on the console job at all or in that photo I posted either. It could be your monitor maybe :/
Anyway, this is a 1.6 case. The case was not "painted" it was dyed with Vinyl Dye, not sure if that would change anything but just to be clear.
Honestly never seen any XBOX system cases from any version having this green tint you're talking about.

It sounds like the person who used car paint didn't use proper preparation, there's many things that can go wrong when painting plastics.
