Hello i am new to this forum, so i´ve got 1 problem with my original playstation model number SCPH-1001 (manufactured december 1995) not that manufacturing date is important, the problem is that the top coper where the buttons are located and where the top lid opens up when you press the open button (you know what am talking about) on the side that is facing the inside of the console there are some "pillars" if you can call them that way where screws are screwed into from the underside of the console the problem is that i tried to take it apart to clean it because it was bought from a flea market and it was out on the sun (it has a little of even decoloration) so i tried to take it apart but appearently it was never taken apart in almost 20 years i couldnt even disconect any cable from the inside of the console (is ksm440-acm the original laser for this model ?) because screws werent the exactly loose it still has a piece of black "tape" to keep the wires from the laser held into the motherboard top cover, so i couldnt take it apart so i put it back together and i noticed one of the screws got loose then i oppened it up again and the "pillar" where the screw is screwd cracked into several pices i managed to glue it back together but the second time i tried to put all the screws back 3 of those others cracked as well so i ended up with 1 good pillar and 4 other cracked pillars glued back together and i noticed that when i screwed the screw the pillar would twist and slowly start to crack. any way to fix this ? (i managed to put it back together with the help of some oil) Forgive me for my bad english and also for the very the long post
There is not really a lot you can do except swapping the upper housing with a new one. The basic problem is that the housing is made of ABS plastic, and that tends to become brittle with age - when you are reinstallling the screws, you need to try and get them back into the original positions to reduce the change of cracking the pillars, but you can't eliminate the risk entirely. On a console made at the end of 1995, the laser probably would have been an ACM model - the AAMs were only on the very early units.
