Problem with XBOX 360 Slim Sidecar or Power Supply?

I recently purchased a used XBOX 360 slim XDK with sidecar. Unfortunately, I have no expertise with 360 equipment yet and am having a problem with the unit, power supply and/or the sidecar. I'm hoping someone can help me determine what to do about this issue. The unit is a black 360 slim XDK (not a prototype) with a black sidecar. All the components came in their individual boxes and it appears that everything is original or at least correct for the unit. The console doesn't appear to have been opened or modded in any way. There are some executibles on the HDD, but nothing interesting. A brief description of the problem follows:

    1. When the console is plugged in without the sidecar attached it functions perfectly without problems. The 135w power brick light is green, the console boots quickly and can load beta games by disk and run the few executibles on then HDD.

    2. When I turn off the console, attach the side car and bolt it into place the system won't boot up when I turn it on. The power brick light turns red immediately and the console does nothing at all. No noises, lights, or anything at all.

I attempted to research it on the few sites that have information about 360 XDK units and at first I thought I just had the wrong power supply. However, after looking fairly hard for information about the increased power needed to power a slim sidecar and the alternative power supply needed for the unit I came up empty. I'm back to thinking that I have the right power supply and there is a problem with either the console or the sidecar or both. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Does anyone have advice to share? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When you have the sidecar plugged into the XDK, are the lights inside the sidecar itself green, red, combination thereof, or are they completely absent? Sounds to me as if the sidecar is faulty or something is shorting out. Determining where is the next step. I have the same kit you're describing. 135W should be ample for the kit and sidecar to run.

Thanks for the information. When I connect the sidecar to the xbox and plug it into the outlet the power supply light goes red and the xbox does nothing at all. The sidecar doesn't light up either. As soon as I remove the sidecar, the xbox goes back to working perfectly again. So, it sounds like finding another sidecar is probably the way to go?

Yeah, I'd send it to someone with a similar kit and see if the sidecar works on their kit. Otherwise it would be the kits sidecar port that's faulty.

Thanks for the help guys. This is a huge time saver. I really appreciate the responses. I think sending the sidecar to someone that is willing to test it for me is an excellent idea and one I plan on trying.

Borman, I did look up your sidecars and they seem well priced to me. I am interested and I'll reach out to you if the sidecar is confirmed as bad.

Suprashake, without knowing what's wrong with the console and/or the sidecar I wouldn't sell it. Maybe its the port, maybe it's something even worse like multiple problems. At this point I have a much better idea of what could be wrong that I did 24 hours ago, but I don't usually like to dump my problem items on someone else without complete transparancy. I'm not worried about how much money I get for it so much as I am worried that something could be horribly wrong with it. I would rather try to find out what's wrong with it before determining what to do with it.

sounds good. if you do plan on selling it as is. please let me know. i dont need a sidecar for making trainers. i am working on making content trainers for LiNK. lol a real xdk works on LiNK unlike RGLoader. so a slim xdk full dev kit with out sidecar is what i am looking for. i have a xenon xdk full dev kit with out sidecar, but it runs super hot. so i am looking for a slim xdk. thanks for the heads up. thank you. you have a good day

I would be more than willing to test it for nothing if you'd like.
