Hi everyone, Might be a bit premature, but it looks like Rare fans have some very exciting stuff on the way. Tim Stamper (one of the founders of Rare Ltd.) is going through his closet and, among other things, he's found a prototype cartridge for Project Dream. From his tweets, it sounds like we'll actually get to see it! =D Here's his Twitter account: https://twitter.com/InTimsWorld And here's the photo of the cart: https://twitter.com/InTimsWorld/status/607210009181724672 I never thought we'd see this - probably only a couple of these in existence (I imagine the other would be at Rare). Fingers crossed everyone!
This is hugely exciting, I'd love to know what other cartridges he has laying around, particularly any other carts from the lifetime of this project, up until its release as Banjo-Kazooie.
I think I just peed a little in excitement! Project dream has to be one the most mysterious cancelled titles. At the time that rareware had mastered the snes this would have been an amazing swan song for one of the greatest consoles ever. The amount of times I've stared at that one released screen shot and wondered what the hell it would have been like. At least it went on to inspire banjo kazooie!
Damn I just zoomed in to check out those 3 n64 carts hoping for a glimpse of twelve tales and dinosaur planet but it seems that none of of the carts are 512 mbit, I guess they could have put them on a 256 mbit cart due to neither of them being finished yet. Surely he would have both in his personal stash! Anyone else with thought on the subject?
Hopefully we can get some screens, videos or background information. I'll take anything at this point. Playing them on the other hand? Not going to happen. Still something to get excited for, though.
I think I may be the only one enjoying the teasing. There's a little magic in how he's doing it and its very amusing to me.
I'm really of two minds here. I love the way that he's teasing it with the googly eyes (very quintessential Rare), but I also can't wait to see some pictures/footage! Seeing as he's 'caught' the cartridge, I'm hoping that the teasing is nearly at an end haha.
The teasing is just beginning. There are more cartridges so I'm assuming he's going to be like "Hey look, Banjo Kazooie beta, whoops, dropped it. Oh look, its still alive and I'm playing it right now. Wish I had a camera."
I do hope it is somewhat complete or someone can finish it if it is still a WIP. Any word for it coming out on Genesis? Lol.
@supersega - Well, considering it was only made for SNES by a Nintendo second party, I'd say that's unlikely =P To be honest, I doubt Tim Stamper will ever release the ROM (probably a lot of legal difficulty there, although he is in a pretty unique position), so I think the best we can hope for is screenshots and video footage. In other news, the teasing continues! The cartridge got away and is hiding under the fridge...
This is pretty fun. I love when game devs have a good seance of humor. Any ideas on how we can trick it into leaving the fridge?
