Sadly the Game Gear doesn't produce any analogue video signals at all, so there isn't anywhere to tap into to take the video signal from, it is all digitally sent to the LCD through a few data rails. I am however wondering if the video processor from a master system would interface into the game gear, I might look into that next time I have some spare time.

@Torben: I double checked everything, still not working,.. i also tried omp's approach with a second oscillator,.. this gave me a stable picture with washed out colors (red was very weak), also the picture sometimes flickers and then gets stabel again,.. well i guess the problem again is one of these chinese Displays which are not compatible ( i already tried 1 from amazon (taotronic), and 2 different from ebay,.. none of them were working right with the nomad... now i ordered one in ebay like the one you posted,.. i will post my findings after the display has arrived ;-)

I'm sorry to hear that it has been giving you so much trouble, Washed out colours could be due to the colour filter selection on the video processor, I suspect that the value of the resistor used to pull it low has to be very accurate at 16k or it will apply the NTSC colour filters to your PAL signal. Things would be so much easier if those little screens could take component. If you post or message me a few pictures I'd be happy to have a look over things :)

Fantastic, I'm glad that it's working for you, you went for the same monitor that I ended up settling on too, I've been nothing but happy with it. It's also possible to do the brightness mod to that screen if you can find a proper thumb wheel resistor, old disc men seem to have served me well so far on that front.

    hi alfck
Take a look at my homepage (sorry its in german) http://www.pukepals.com/sega-nomad-tft-display-mod/ . there you will see the controller board of the display. Then just search in ebay for e.g. 3,5" Display and search for Displays with this controller

    Good Luck !

Just wanted to verify that this display (LQ035NC121) and controller board worked out perfectly for my mod. Thank you!

That brightness hack is great! Thanks so much for taking pics and showing us that. Id be curious to know how the circuit works too...maybe its a feedback resistor for a DC-DC output.

I'm curious, I have the exact same LCD board, but I can see on your pictures and the same on mine, the resistor you remove is actually a 222 (2.2k) ohm resistor, and not a 3.3k as you say in the original post. So, should I still be using a 5k trimpot?
