Guys, Does this belong to someone here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300590915785?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 A bit steep at £2,000, but it does sound interesting, I quote from the auction: 'THIS VERSION OF THE GAME HAS VERY DIFFERENT LEVELS TO THE FINISHED VERSION, IT HAS ALSO NEVER BEEN RELEASED ON EMULATION SOME OF THE LEVELS REMOVED WERE SET IN NAZI OCCUPIED GERMANY (A PROGRAMMERS JOKE) AND OBVIOUSLY HAD TO BE CUT FOR THE FINAL VERSION.' Anyone here had access to this in the past? Thanks, Paul
It's amazing what can turn up in a simple Google search: http://rq87.flyingomelette.com/RQ/PP/CVB/1.html
Very nice although overpriced imo. The problem is: how can we know this guy is serious? Everyone can pretend to work for a video game magazine...
Nice find! I have to say I had not bothered scouring Google before posting! Looks like the last time they had it on eBay (2002, apparently) they put up loads of screenshots, which look the real deal as they watermarked them. Question is, how did they end up with such an early proto, even if they did work for a magazine, and won't Konami be pissed that it is up on eBay? I also think from the sellers other auctions (and My World image) that they are Female, their My World details also has the following info: 'Hey there i grew up with video games and ♥ loved the good old days Playing 16Bit Game Consoles, i was lucky enough to work with a Publishing Company and got to play many of these promo games months before they were released. =)' Wonder who this person is? Must have been on a Sega Mag back in the day? There are publishing houses in Bournemouth, where they are based. Paul
Awfully expensive. It certainly is worth something but not as much as he wants for it. Would be nice to see it dumped some day.
On the cost - I wonder what they had it up for in 2002? Not many people have £2K to spend on a proto cart these days!
I think it is a bit confusing to see it because I think it did sell before and member here bought it (he said so).
If it's in english, it's already final and nothing different. If it was 100% Japanese beta I might show interest.
Given the nature of the game Assembler, it's possible a Sample version was sent to western press that had the American title even though it was still in development. It's not like they have much to make English or Japanese, it's CV. Cut the intro and ending which may be things barely present if at all in development versions and you have no language barrier. And in the west the Sega Genesis was very popular so getting hype for your upcoming Genesis game makes sense. Also the link posted earlier notes differences.
That's silly and daft belief to have. You didn't read anything about it? There is a Castlevania PS2 proto in Japanese that is quite different (some button commands are not even set) but the english language is already in the game (before other things). The disc was made for english preview. Being in english doesn't mean things are always final and nothing different.
Isn't this already confirmed to be the proto from that link up there? It has a cut blimp level/area. Doesn't look like final with nothing different to me
less interesting protos have been payed even more IMHO. certainly someone might ask for a in game vid for such a price
This is a very interesting proto with the extra cut level and other unused items. I'm surprised a high profile game like this never sold for 2000. As karsten pointed out, much more has been paid for shit in the past.
I think price is to high because risk of version that is backed up being released, person will loose to much money if they bought it and that happened. I think when it was listed before it sold, and person that bought it said so and described what is was like, but seller has used same picture again and it makes me skeptical of if you will receive exact cassette as pictured, or if it is same version as the one backed up now.
