I figured I'd share these. Here are some photos I took of the original DS that Nintendo had on display at E3 2004. Rather different than the "DS Phat" that made it to retail. The game you see running above was a Pokemon themed "scratch and win" game. Given 4 circles, scratching one of them revealing a pokemon they'd give you as a prize (stuffed toy). I can't remember which one I got (Squirtle or Bulbasaur I think), but everybody wanted the Pikachu 'cause it was at least twice the size of the rest. Edit: More Photos of the Scratch and Win game.
Thoes were never ment for retail (obvious). God they were far more comfortable to hold then the DS fatty. I was sad to give them back to the publisher (i worked a little on the rayman ds port, it was ment to be a launch title).
There was also some prototypes games playable at that E3. I recall playing a Sonic "rub" demo with a nice blur effect. Did those stuff eventually got out?
One thing that annoyed me about the original DS, is the power button. What a stupid place to put it. The ammount of times i've hit that button when i'm playing a game.
I ve heard many complaints about the power button, but I ve hit the PSP's more than the DS phat's. I ve actually never hit the DS phat's.
Thanks for sharing the pictures, and for being one of the few people to post something truly rare in this forum ;-)
Yeah I remember it, the black plastic across the screens was pretty cool actually. The one with the SA2 looking sonic? where?
