Look at this forum here; http://www.meanmachinesmag.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=137 Its about writer from a magazine called mean Machines and one ex-staffer admits to owning a prototype Sonic 1. What are the chances we could get it dumped? he admits he's worried that the cart could suffer bit rot... :love2:
Well when news like this spreads around other forums/sites, the owner usually backs out.. Anyway, good luck!
He's not interested in selling/dumping it, unfortunately. I offered him a lot of cash (over $2500), he still turned me down. Kinda sucks. Please don't badger him, he might change his mind in the future.
just read through that entire thread... real interesting to see those people again having read their articles/playtests when i was much younger.. Its nice to see that they are still into the whole scene also!
Despite the fact that the guy is quite funny, he is still a dick for not offering a dump or doing something to preserve it by moving it to a new flash rom. His 20 year ebay plan is gonna fuck up sooner than he thinks when bitrot kicks in. Very excited about this, I hope he does something with it soon, a set of screen grabs would soothe my ache!
He was joking about the ebay thing. I doubt he will release it, but not doubt pressure to get it dumped will lead to that happening.
his reaction to dumping the cart may change after pressure from his ex-colleagues as he is likely to take more notice from one of them then someone hassling him to sell....
Yeah, don't pester Mr Guise. He was a legend in the UK games magazine industry back in the day and we don't want him to be scared off.
Ho w about you give him info on how to back it up to prevent the bitrot, and then let him do what he wants with it as he's the owner.
Well this is some good news to hear! I wonder if it will ever see the light of day on the net....
While I'm all for the dumping of unreleased games.... Whats so great about the sonic prototypes I can never really get... Unless theres like a big difference.., by that I mean like unreleased levels. and the one minor thing thats different from the final version.
For me, it's the excitement of seeing prototype footage of games I grew up with (Super Mario prototypes). Even if there are minor changes like in the Super Mario USA prototype, there's still a desire for it!
Well of course its exciting to some extent. But, to me it depends on the amount of that extent. For instance I'd really really be excited to see a Mario Kart 64 prototype with the magikoopa in it Or seeing a Super Mario World Prototype of its original graphics style http://xoomer.alice.it/mononline/unseen/marioworldbeta.htm But, I dunno I look at some protos and the very small changes don't seem that cool. But, perhaps I guess if it was a new item or a new test level or one of my fav games I'd probably see things abit more your way.
If you read the link you'll realise that the beta is quite a find. Also it is the first Sonic game, so more interesting than your average joe platformer I'd like to think
