cheers for the link J Rignall is now working for the Bank of America?!! I was an avid Zzap Reader way back when - reading that now was surreal! a fascinating read, cheers. Not fussed about Sonic tho'...it's his choice so u shouldnt hassle him.
Well, having access to a Sonic 1 proto would be nice, as others have said, it's his, so no one can legitimatly harass the guy. Hopefully he takes dxr up on the offer for the loan of equipment so theres at least a backup in case the original dies. Again, not for us to really lose sleep over.
You know, every one says it's his but legally it isn't since he stole it. Saying that I was a massive Mean Machines and Megatech fan back in the day so thumbs up to him for grabbing it  Yakumo
It's be neat to see the ROM dump. But I agree it's noone's right to bother him about handing out a ROM dump. I do hope that the prototype doesn't goto waste though. It's be a shame for something like that to just rot away.
The loss of this would be well it'd be pretty weak if a know copy of a much sort after beta rotted and it was lost forever..yeah it's his choice etc it'd just suck.
Not really. If there's only a small piece of shit in my corn flakes, I would say that it's all messed up...not just that little bit. Calling someone a dick for what they do or don't do w/ their own property is pretty close-minded.
legally speaking it's not his property, he doesn't hold good title to the software within the hardware, nor to the physical hardware enclosing the software. The software belongs to the copyright holder, and the physical hardware to SEGA likewise. Sega could primarily ask for their software to be returned (via a dump for a example), or the even the hardware since: It wasn't a gift, since it wasn't given to him by SEGA unconditionally It wasn't given on contract, because he didn't provide any valuable consideration to SEGA, in money or money's worth for the item, Finally, the item was given to the magazine for a purpose. This purpose stopped existing when the final game was released. From that moment on, SEGA could at any time, under English law, ask him to return it. The australian courts would recognize English jurisdiction btw, since the whole thing happened in England ;p Anyway, sorry GaijinPunch, but it isn't his to do as he please at all!
Thankyou! Although I'll admit that calling the guy a 'dick' was a little bit out of order. However upon reading the MM forum again there does seem to be an arrogant quality surrounding him.
This is getting kind of ridiculous. I bet he wishes he'd never posted on that forum now. Also, it could be a prank.
Sure it is. We all no good and well none of that is ever in a million years going to happen. Regardless of what some interpretations of the law says... it's his. Is there even proof that it's the English version? Could it be the Japanese one? International law gets even messier/harder to enforce. Who's to say it wasn't legally given to him? W/o someone holding a contract and going after it, it's his property. He most likely required it before any tightness of Digital Rights shit as well. Legally imports outside of their intended country are illegal... at least copyright infringement. If he doesn't want to dump it, fair game. Well... then you should definitely call him a dick then.
GP, it doesn't matter which version of the software it is, it's just a simple issue of contract , not content =) I just made the analysis for the fun of it,although it's true Asking the guy to dump it, is like asking someone who owns Biohazard 1.5 to dump - not very attractive, considering the amount of dead presidents you can shovle if it remains one of a kind. That said, for the software's sake, he better back it up and store it in different media/locations - it's the stuff of legends, you can at least be kind to future generations.
I probably wouldn't dump it either to be honest. Too many morons on the internet that don't appreciate that stuff. I would definitely back it up though. That being said, stuff like this doesn't really get me that hard. Yeah, it's cool, but it's no unreleased game.
