Seems like an awesome idea, but I don't really see the point. CD-Rs are cheap media now. Modchips can still be found, and easily installed. Good luck with it though, sounds like an awesome idea like I said. However, if you do end up making this mod, will it cost more than the modchip setup idea? Since you are in Australia I have a lot of IDE HDD just laying around if you want them.
Yes hopefully I will get it going... Haha, thanks for the offer! But nah I have several IDE HDD's myself. Desktop and Laptop form. IF, I need them I will know who to ask... Thanks however HeXiGON
PAL (Phase Alternating Line - the Alternative to NTSC) has nothing to do with PAL (Programmable Array Logic). You could flash it with the data from Stevie Wonder's optic nerves and it'd still be in colour. Jesus. I highly recommend that this thread gets locked and the project team start a new one when there is a video/pics of a PS1 hooked up to some kind of new fangled interface running at the very least "Hello World" from a Hard Disk, as this is just going to get worse and worse and I cringe coming back to this thread as it's just plain embarrassing. I haven't got a damn clue about electronics, I had to look up about 6 guides before I modded my Mega Drive but even I know more about what it is you're doing at this point.
Twimfy, Harsh but true. You really need to know what you are doing before doing big projects like this. When I see people looking for other people to join their "team" to do something... I get the impression that the guy starting it all doesn't know how to do it and so are getting other people to try and work it out while you do the managing side of things. Really, the best way to do this is by doing it yourself. Once you have done it you can prove it to everyone that it's possible... then you'll get people asking to help YOU. It's like... Manager Guy: "Ok team, you have all been gathered here today to build a rocket!" Manager Guy: "... sooooo..... anyone know how to build one?, I know what it should look like. Here is a drawing I did last night... yep, she's a beauty" Team Member: "Sir... where are the wings?" Manager Guy: "Oh right! we'll need those." When It should be like: Manager Guy: "Ok team, you have all been gathered here today to build a rocket!" Manager Guy: "I have the blueprints and built several small experiments which seem to work well." Team Member: "Great, where would you like me to start?" Manager Guy: "I need you to order parts to build a smaller scale rocket using our blueprints" Wasn't this topic on the BenHeck forum? But anyway you wanted this topic to die... so *zips mouth*
Here is something I thought I would throw out there. Would it be possible to have an SD card hooked up to the serial port something like the dreamcast interface? I do not mean so ISOs can be run from an SD card, but if say a library could be written for the new SDK that tails92 is/was working on, allowing a FAT16/32 card to be read/written to it could be quite useful for say running executables / backing up game saves to/from. Looking at the schematic for dreamcast one it looks like the card is being used in SPI mode, so would this be possible on a PS or would it not be possible? There doesnt seem to be much low level info out there on the serial port registers. PS. This isnt someone looking for l33t ppl to join a team or anything, just a question really. TIA Dan
Probably not but I can't find info on the serial registers. The DC can set the port as GPIO for bit-banging so it's a bit special, if there's any hope for the PS it's on the handshake signals (DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS).
Haunted360 gives off that impression. He doesn't know that ROM chips are clearly non-writable, keeps claiming he will just "learn it" as he goes along and get the advanced stuff when it comes time to do so and badmouths those with the advanced knowledge. And what the fuck is with the "oh nose Krikzz is gonna take our project away from us1!!11" spiel? Newsflash: you need to know the advanced stuff yesterday. You can learn it as you go but clearly he isn't and cannot. His attitude smells of that of someone still in High School and probably is. I keep coming back because this thread is a train wreck in progress that keeps having cherries added. Watch he will come in and "thank" anyone who didn't openly point out what an ass he has been again then tell the rest of us to fuck off or something denoting he feels superior to anyone who doesn't like being mocked by someone who exhibits no respect and resorts to childish name calling. "CalPISoff" indeed. Then he will go somewhere else, rally for more help all the while saying everyone at ASSEMblergames.com are poopy heads who are mean and smell like butt, kiss their butts, kiss each others butts while sniffing other peoples butts.
sorry, I cannot help it: lol It's a shame, at the start of the thread, I was very hopeful it would come to something real... nevermind
i really need a button that auto reply "cool story bro" to half of the comments. if you have that much time on your hands i really suggest you find a better hobby? in other news a cheap psone emulator has come out http://www.dealextreme.com/p/play-s...console-with-usb-sd-ms-av-hdmi-pal-ntsc-70928 interesting to see if its using hacked roms (like the ique) or origs and how well it runs them may make haunteds project less useful.
I'm back. Did ya' miss me? Anyhow, ignoring all that troloollooling... I got a Xplorer. Now I can mess around with programming and learn a bit more stuff. I am just trying to get it running and pick an OS to use. I was going to use Windows XP, but now I know it will not work correctly without running giveio.sys and userport. Please don't spam the topic will all that rubbish. Forget the past already. I want to work on this and post useful and useless stuff I figure out... More updates soon I guess......
OK I got my Xplorer working thanks to some very nice guy (danhans115) on the forums. Now I will just be making an .EXE to do whatever. Print GPU, etc to just get into the programming. Once that has been done, I will try and send something from my computer to the PS as streaming data (IE: stream audio, video). This will take me a while to achieve  When that has been done, I will improve the size of the RAM (?) in the Xplorer to 512 MB... (de-solder and re-solder). I don't know if this is possible, but I will read up and figure it out. If you have useful information, please post away (no trolololing )
Great. Nice. Messing around with the PS1 is a lot of fun. Ooh, ambitous. Best of luck. HAHAHA OH::clap::fresh: Oh, I'm sorry
Ill be kind.. ish. Learn to program, get one of the PSX SDK's set up and working, learn how to use it along with the libs, then come back to the hardware. Otherwise you will just keep getting the piss ripped whenever you post here.
OK im with you now ray: Any particular SDK in mind? PSY-Q?? Do you have a link to show me how to get it all set up? I got the PSY-Q library downloaded and it has .exe's, .com's everywhere in a folder after another... THANK YOU! Now I feel like im getting somewhere
You really must start googling. I gave you a link in one of your other threads to a newbie FAQ on the hitmen console website, read it. It answers all these questions and more.
