Above 1.6 or so can't go below that iirc and I want to say anything past 0.995 can't go under that again. Not sure if this happens with DEM units but its true of final kits.
This is why i'm doing all the work i can to be 100% sure of everything about these. At some point I plan to document which firmwares are the point of no return. I would also like figure out if the max firmware for these is 1.691.011 since thats the last pup made for these. It leads me to believe devkit pups are also able to be used on these but that requires extensive research and if it fails it will likely kill one of these systems.
Don't worry - I'm helping him preserve a kit (since he's already updated one) which hasn't been touched since it arrived. Good find, though.. I hope we find more interesting hardware to document!
How do you even come across this stuff at junkyards lol. My junkyard rarely has prebuilt pc's at that
@Jerry Yin Im offerin to attempt to repair the water damaged one. Not buy or anything. Just repair it. let me know.
I wrote a map of all the areas of interest of the internals for those interested: https://wiki.henkaku.xyz/vita/DEM-3000X @Jerry Yin any way you can probe the connector pads marked #20 while powering it on? I'd be curious if anything shows up.
Some more details, firmware .995 is the first firmware to perform RSA auth, because the .995 PUP is still ECDSA signed, firmware .995 itself can only update to .996 and onward, .996 cannot downgrade to .995 or below for the same reason. If one wants to update from .945 to 1.00+ he would have to go through the following process: .945 > .995 > 1.00+ This would be a one way trip, once you update to .995 or higher, there is no going back.
Because the LiveArea is so different, even on 0.945, the only way I would ever be okay with this is if someone meticulously went through and showed off all the iterations of it before updating past the marks. Capture software/hardware would be a requirement here as phone quality or a camera at a tv wont do justice.
Sorry to reply you that late, if you are interest with it or you want to know more detail about the hardware, please send me the PM
Oh my lord, I'd sell a kidney to have these in my collection! I'm so glad they were rescued from the dump and ended up in the hands of someone who appreciates them.
they have changed hands to more responsible people as well. Jerry is not someone any of us trust to keep these safe. Yes he did get them but he has a room full of hardware he's killed too.
