They already relisted it too. Is there any confirmation that the method for supposedly extending the activation actually works and doesn't just change the number of days it displays?

 

I know, does that suppose lifetime activation even work?? No ones actually comfirmed it so far

I think the point is that a couple of images doesn't prove anything... nor does the fact that a couple of people in a forum say it's been proven.
Don't get me wrong; I'd love to see this working (even though I don't own and probably never will any of this HW), but most people will not believe it until real proof is provided.

Sorry, silly question but does the Vita Test kit, run retail Vita games and sign in to go online?

 

I'm not sure if the fw has changed since launch but I believe you can play retail cards. You can also get onto normal PSN (but not store) by changing the network string (we had to do this a few times to debug user content in a public beta for a game I worked on).

 

Thanks mate for the reply! now is to consider whether is it worth picking the Vita Test console that is like a ticking time bomb with expiry and the lacklustre game the platform have.

I would buy one even to mess with if the price is right, but a $400 entry bid or a Buy It Now for $700 is way too high.

One method was to pull the battery from the unit by opening it but who knows if that's been patched or if it ever worked in reality and wasn't just part of a rumour.

 

The problem is once you connect it to internet, it will check date.

I am guessing if you activate, then pull the battery. Then never go online, ever.

 

iirc If you pull the battery it resets the timer giving you a month, IDK it was some time ago when yifan talked about it.

 

Yea that's not how it works, Look I'll spare you the details on how exactly the licensing is done but the kit itself needs to be registered to the studio that activates it.
Further more if you are going to send a kit to another studio you need to transfer ownership via SCE's dev site so it will allow activation on the other end. Thus to have anyone activate your illegal kit you first need to have someone from the last studio to send the ownership to the new one that is willing to risk everything for one random guy.

Simply put its not as easy as just giving you a key file, At least afaik.

 

I'm not familiar with how it works, but even if you got someone to do what fate6 mentioned, I'm guessing Sony does not provide 'lifetime' activation; they probably go with a time-limited activation (ie. needs renewal every X days) to avoid any random guy that buys a kit being able to use it for a long period (or at all).
Additionally, I'd also guess what fate mentions can only be done by companies registered with their static IP that allows them to access SCE dev site, so that's another thing to keep in mind.

 

Stop asking all over the forums. Especially in irrelevant threads like rules and someone else's price check.
