BTW JLCPCB doesn't charge extra for castellated edges, and neither does OSHpark. At least in my experience. I just use a via with the outline/border cutting through it and they turn out fine. If I remember correctly OSHPark has specific rules for this, I don't think JLCPCB does though. Unless I misread what you said and this is exactly what you're doing already?
Vias with an edge through it isn't castellated. Proper castellation is much better than that comes out.
i ordered the boards from OSHpark and got one edge correct and the other not so much. but if its cheaper and you cut carefull with your wirecutter then it seems fine. But of corse, if someone have a better zuggestion fore another run i would try that im how ever very greatful for the product, will try more with the bios replacement when i have time, im sure i missed something. thanks for all the support.
so i got two units up and running. I solderd in a one more psx-xboo and got the same error. that got me thinking. i put in a jap original and kept pressing reset. Bam! both are working after saving the settings! to the sad part. none are booting anything but jap cds. with PAL it says unlicensed and stops. guess this isnt the way to fix jap PSXs or am i doing something wrong? i found a thread at psx devs that says you have to solder two wires to enable the modchip feature. might that be the solution? thanks for all the help again
Sorry, Jap. CDROM controller needs two additional wires, forgot to mention. Check here: Pinouts/Mods chapter. https://problemkaputt.de/psx-spx.htm
so i managed to enable the modchip function on both the 5000 and the 7000 unit. First thing got a black picture on the 5000 pu-8 unit on PAL games. Then i couldnt boot rockman 6, seems to have an antimodchip function? then i tried the 7000. this one plays pal games, but also wont boot rockman 6. stupid antimod protection. All in all. this XBOO is a good candidate. might be perfect in paralell with the latest PSNEE One qustion thou, shouldnt the PU-8 5000 unit display a picture with RGB connection? do i need to mod it? i know i have to if i want color on compsite, but i dont get a picter with rgb or composite on this unit when playing PAL games, and force NTSC dosnt work. I can hear the cdrom unit chugging away thou. and again thanks for all the help.
Glad for you. I'm a bit confused about all these black screens you have (after pressing select button or booting some games). Maybe it need proper cleaning to get rid of the flux? But the second guess is that Rockman used some kernel patching and that cause some issues with custom BIOS. Maybe. And more important - XBOO won't work as DEV2 (PIO). It were said by it's author at PSXDEV.net somewhere. Try to check Unirom someday, maybe it will work as DEV2.
ok thanks. i have no more problems with blackscreen. i guess it might have been some residual ram from old bios. Rockman displays a clear stopsign with japanese text. Clear antimod detection i think. Its just the PU-8 unit that wont display a picture with PAL games. works wit NTSC. Might be a bug in XBOO or maybe it needs a small mod? The PU-20 works fine, other than that the rockman game displays a stopsign. If you or someone else got info on that, it would be helpfull. other than that, its all working fine now and iv learned somthing in the process. Update: Got the PU-8 working to. got info at psx-devs that som pu-8 ntsc unit have the PAL clock input tied to ground causing vsync stop when switching to PAL. all i had to do was to move a 0ohm resistor from ground and connect the 2 clocks together and presto! Perfect RGB! not always easy to work on old consoles when the models differ so.
