PS1 emulation on PC will be better because it's far more customizable and can be changed on a whim. I could probably in a day take a PS1 EMU src and add in support for 3D glasses yet I can't on PS3. My point is PS3's PS1 emu (latest firmware) does a pretty damn respectable job on PS1 games in 1080p. It's doing far more then just a 320x240 frame buffer stretched to 1080p w/ filter. I'll try to take some pictures later tonight to show. Sony does actually work to improve their PS1 emus. It's pretty much night & day comparison if you look at how far the PS1 emu for PSP has changed since it's first iteration to now.
It is impressive. The menu's and text in FF7 for example have a nice HD look about them and the texture smoothing and anti-aliasing is nice too.
Well, if you say that, then i take back what I said. I never knew Sony updated their PS1 emu. This actually makes me want to get some stuff on PSN. I was curious on how Rayman (2D game) and Soviet Strike (3d game) looks like on 1080p. Too bad games like Dead or Alive, Mr.Driller, Ray Tracers and some others are not available on USA PSN.
=P Kind of funny but the first ps1 emu for PSP didn't clip polygons which was funny when used on games that used large polygons as they would not render (PSP does not have hw clipping frustum, so large polygons are dropped). They end up fixing that in the 2nd/3rd release of the emu. I'll try to post some pictures later tonight (like rayman 2). I'm also going to swing by a used game store to see if they have GT 1 or 2 to do a comparison to the PC shots. I know it won't be close but should show some comparison on the quality of the PS3's PS1 emu. Go Go JPN Store for me (I got Doa, Mr Driller & tons other). =P Actually I'm excited that there is a good chance R4/Ridge Racer 4 is coming to USA store in the future (recent esrb rating).
The problem is i'll have to spend more money on PSN Cards exclusively for the Japanese store and ending up having money left with no use. Credit Cards are usually blocked, so i only buy those pre-paid cards for the USA store (with the help of sonik  by the way). Anyway, i hope that now that some PSOne Imports were released on USA PSN, these games i mentioned get a launch as well.
I agree that the locked credit card system of PSN is crap. I generally ask someone form japan to just buy me some PSN cards (with a small markup for themselves). It's not too bad since it tends to be half the cost of import sites and they tend to get them back to me in 1-3 days.
Thank you for the links! The question now is can I port the linux versions to Mac  -Disjaukifa
It's using "Pete's OpenGL2" video plugin. It gives you the option to change internal xy resolution between native, high and very high.(Unlike PCSX2 which lets you specify a resolution) it also lets you use shaders if that's your cup of tea(Which can make some games look even better) Uploaded with ImageShack.us Vagrant story While that's true, on the PSP the most that has changed other than issues you've said is game compatibility, of which the changes still break games that worked perfect before on previous versions of Pops. (coming from someone who's been emulating PS1 games on PSP since 3.00+ days
I have searched EVERYWHERE, and as far as I'm aware it's not possible. It's a shame there's nothing beyond the software plugin as PCSX-R for Mac works great. I cannot get EPSXE on Windows 7 64-bit to work at all.
I can also confirm the ps3 upscale ps1 games really nicely. Mind you it's not going to look as good as a pc emu, but it actually looks very clean and the picture doesn't look blurry or distorted. The worst system to hook up to an hd tv is 64. I mean text sometimes is almost unreadble, I even had to squint my eyes sometimes to make out a minor detail.
I'm trying a different approach for the mac. I have the linux plug-ins which should make PS1 games look great in linux, so I've download the source code and I'm compiling it from source and using open source tools and software since Mac OS X 10.6 IS Unix. I'm download and conifguring libgtk2 at the moment, hopefully if all goes well I'm be up and running in a little while. I'll post my results. Thanks Disjaukifa
Really? I run EpsxE on Windows 7 64-bit and that's how I took all these screenshots. I'm using the ultimate edition and that has the best compatibility with 32-bit programs AFIK
They do have an issue sometimes with breaking compatibility but usually when told they go back to fix it. I've been on the PSP PS1 emu since day one and they've changed alot. . Custom Controls Options . PSP Go supports using a PS3 controller as either Player 2 or as a 1:1 PS1 mapping (analog sticks & rumble included) . Custom Display res on PSP (pos & scale are fully controllable) . Audio & Brightness Boosting . Support for polygon clipping (but I said that already) . Memory Card Utility The only thing I find puzzling is only 1 PS1 game to my knowledge contains a screen shot option and that's Devil Dice Demo on JPN store. I have no clue why all other ps1 games don't support this (it's ****ing awesome).
Well long story short, I'm sure its possible but I couldn't get it to work, after use macports to install a ton of software including GTK2, I ran into an issue building the source that seems to be a code issue, thus I was not able to get the software running correctly. I was able to open the software and use the menu, etc, however when I went to run a game, the program would crash and terminate. If I get extra motivation, I'll try getting to build correctly later. I however gave up and went back to playing some Parasite Eve on my PSOne  -Disjaukifa
