hi members , you may remember the PS1 i have that won't boot original games but the Laser does work as i tested it in another PS1. Well today i though i might reflow the solder on the CD Driver chip. To my surprise i found the below , there is what i think is a modchip with a loose wire. In my other thread i said there was no modchip , i believed that due to the shielding is still on top of the Motherboard. so yeah if i can find where this loose wire is to be soldered to i may be able to get a game to boot , if you closely at J6 the solder looks disturbed which i'm thinking that's where it was soldered to. I'm also thinking of removing it entirely if that doesn't work. Btw what is the other chip contraption ? Color Fix ? The Motherboard is a PAL PU-18 , SCPH 5502
Looks like standard 4 wire old crow modchip. However, someone has inverted pins 5-8 Reinstall the chip, as per attached installation.
Yeah, that other board is a color fix - it's taking the 53.203MHz GPU reference clock and doing a /12 on it to get the 4.433MHz color subcarrier. No idea why they bothered scraping the IC numbers off the parts in such an obvious circuit.
Nice and tidy work though. I like it (Not sure if those unused I/O on the counters are floating though. Is that okay?) The modchip Vcc wire came loose. It looks like it used to be attached to that "J6" tantalum capacitor.
If you look, pin 8 (ground) isnt connected to ground. Ground is connected to pin 5 (which should be connected to where pin 8 is)
hi guys i'm back , just did a rewire as Bad_Ad84 showed in the pic. I tested Toca PAL original disc and it works , then i tested Point Blank 1 NTSC CD-R and that also works. Man i'm pretty stoked right now , thanks for the help and support guys.
