I don't know, but in that moment, the sort of fanboy marketing was what killed one of the best platforms ever created. And over what? An overpriced black block that pretty much had nothing but hype, jaggy, boring games... but also some pretty cool sequels, I'll give it that. You know what I hated the most of that time, though? That moron from Working Designs... I don't know if it was Vic Ireland. While I LOVE Working Designs to death, his declarations over Lunar 3 were just plain incendiary. "I don't know where it's gonna be released in Japan, but if it's Dreamcast, the american version will still be on PS2"
LIKE that's possible (look at Grandia 2, for example...) He didn't have the game, He hadn't even seen the machine. Nobody had! It was just a big black block that lived on hype and never delivered the way its predecessor did.
I myself am still disappointed over PS2, and very bitter.

This sort of stupid crap is why I'm not getting a PS3 until I come to terms with the lack of a decent library, and there's like three price drops so it retails for the 99 dollars it's really worth. I'm also waiting for the Mod Chip or the or boot disc option, for pirates.
Plus almost all launch units are going to blow up or burn down or simply stop working after you play your EA game 5 or 6 times, anyway.

 

imho, the only reason for the ps2 being 50 times better that the dc was the software.

Hehehehe, good point g_sepp. Recently there was an article over here stating that the public are slowly starting to see that Sony's over all build quality is inferior to their rivals. I've said this for years even before the first PlayStation arrived. They are the electronic company of the pop culture.

sony says what ever it can to draw steam away from their rivals. just look at blue ray verus HD- dvd or crash verus mario or anything usb verus sony memory stick. Shit they are still trying to get people to buy Minidisc here. (here being the united states)

just wish people didn't believe all the hype that sony put out. Don't hate me but at that time i didn't like sega. I was an M2 man and was burned by the n64. So sega had nothing for me. But now in my later 20's i own every system sega has created.

 

Damn, man! I'll be 30 years old before we see Lunar 3, and it will probably suck, too! If they make it 2d, it will be a different story. I think they are working on it, maybe, since the Lunar 2 EBC guide says so! :smt083

 

Won't matter if it's 2D or not. If a game sucks then it sucks.

 

I think it will ruin the game series if they make it 3d, imo. Besides, Working Designs' rpgs are 2d and they would be selling out to make a 3d game. The way $ony is, they might force them to make it 3d, which would destroy the artisitc hand drawn feel that I like so much, and many other gamers as well.

 

Working Designs don't make any games. They just translate them(very well I might add. Love the packaging they do as well).
I don't think Sony Japan would force GameArts to move to 3D as they don't appear to have any problem with 2D it's just whoever wanted to publish it stateside would have some problems with SCEA.
And while I, like you, love 2D sprite art I disagree with the assumption that a move to 3D would ruin the series. If the game is good then the perspective means little.

 

Yeah, but I have had bad experiences in the past. Arc the lad twilight of the spirits was kinda bad. Flamboyant character designs, the Deimos come out of nowhere in the series, and they both hated each other so much, it got old and repetitive. The only "Cool" character from that game was Droguza. (Sp?) I guess thats what happens when good series get too big. Lunar is a great, GREAT series, but it was probably meant to be just a few games. Never played Magic School, however. I just think Lunar 3 is going to suck, since there really is nothing left to do. Going to the Blue star would be cool, but who would the main bad guy be? Nephar, Zophar's evil cousin twice removed? I dunno, if they could fit him in somewhere maybe Zophar can come back better and eviller than ever. Or something vile tribe related, possibly. Maybe I will make a poll or something to see what everyone else thinks.

 

What? Twilight of the Spirits is quite decent in my opinion. Not sure if it feels like a part of the series, but as a game, it's pretty solid. The battle music as the Deimos is also quite Retro-Anime, which is also a big plus. The story, I'll give you that, oh, and the "gesticulation" animation, that was really bad.
My PS2 died when I was saved at the entrance to the final dungeon, though... so I don't know if it's got a redeeming ending.
As for Lunar 3 sucking... Something CAN be done, after all the loose ends left by 2. It could also be a fanboy-dream RPG or a gaiden or some sort of "revival" I'm almost sure it's never coming out... but if it does, I still have some faith.
One's gotta believe in something, I guess.
