OPL doesn't force resolutions unless you have the version with GS Mode Selector built-in. That version of GSM is outdated though iirc. GS mode Selector is the program that can force 480p. Also no games used the PS2's VGA mode, only the Linux kit (VGA being the actual 31kHz 640x480p@60Hz format, not RGBHV or RGsB in 480p with slightly off resolutions like all 480p PS2 games iirc). I found for games that don't work properly when forced to 480p tend to work fine in 1080i mode. That ATLUS fix beta I mentioned before does fix the speed issue in Persona games, however.

Also I have a question for the tech guys. Why do some people call RGB with a C-Sync signal RGBs? Iirc RGBs is the rarely used Sync on Blue format, like how RGsB is Sync on Green, RsGB is Sync on Red (another rarely used format), and RsGsBs is Sync on All (I have no idea what uses this outside Extron equipment). RGBS is RGB+C-Sync. Sorry if it comes off as nitpicking, it is just that I've been seeing it on RetroRGB and by some members on here often while the tech guys I know always refer to it as RGBS. Not targeting anyone, just would like to know which term is correct is all.

There is a rumour that some of the arcade based PS1 games can output 480p & they use the same chips as the later PS1 consoles. At some point I want to look into it and either figure it our or put the rumour to bed.

PS1 is limited because it pushed the technology and they didn't have gates spare for features they weren't going to make money with & they didn't have time to think about the future either.

The PS2 is a bit of a disaster hardware wise, it really suffers from second system effect. It's configurable because they threw everything including the kitchen sink into it. The PS3 was going to be even worse, which is why they sidelined ken and did a deal with nvidia for a gpu (originally all rendering was going to be done in software with the cell broadband engine).

There are still decent TV's that have component, just a year ago I bought a mid range Panasonic 58" 4K TV that has component on it, it also has a decent upscalar.
