http://obsrv.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3578 Figured I would post this here as it is indeed a huge announcement and is worthy of the news board on here... PS2 fans rejoice!
the idea was actually tossed around a bit yesterday, but sadly it wont be possible at this current time as the OBSRV developer isnt ready to release the coding necessary for PS2.NET. not out of hatred or any technical reason, only because they want the OBSRV project to be kept privately run
This is awesome! It's great seeing Burnout 3 being mentioned in the compatible titles! Looking forward to giving that title a spin again
This is excellent to see, awesome that the dev team is a ton of former veterans in the industry so they'd know what they're doing
I was just lurking around when I came across this topic. It looked interesting until I saw the name camjam1995. i.e. cammers95, i.e. towgers, i.e. ccrogers/15, etc, and i.e a massive troll. Then I realised why this all sounded so abstract, he probably doesn't know what he's talking about. DNS something something. Take this with a grain of salt people since the guy behind this is popular for trolling the Spyro community (several fake rumours, probably including this eventual trainwreck of a topic), Croc community (fake Croc 3 rumour), Resident Evil community (various), Sims community ('Sims PS1' rumour), mostly with fake news and false promises. IIRC he was even banned from these forums for a Croc scandal but made a new account, which he used to defend himself briefly when I made a fuss back on the aforementioned Spyro 5 topic. What's pretty sickening is that seeing some of the things he's said, this may well be a ruse to get developers to give him 'source codes' among other stuff, also assets from a Resident Evil project here, where he's already implying that actually this project will never happen, right on schedule ('project might be compromised due to leaked source codes'). This guy has messed with official developers before too, IIRC in the Croc scandal. Grain of salt, people. (to those wondering: yeah I actually spent time looking up all this stuff--I don't like making a fuss, but this guy just rubs me the wrong way every time I bump into another one of his shenanigans, this time an otherwise potentially cool PS2 revival idea [though such a thing sadly probably wouldn't gather enough players to be worth the massive hacking effort].)
gladly I follow by the phrase "If it comes, it comes... if it doesnt, it doesnt..." so I dont go too deep into it, I just calls it as I sees it. the fact that there is indeed a screenshot does raise the credibility above most of the other threads I have read. but I dunno... this was really only announced on http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1914 I was the one who spread it all everywhere. because its what I do, I am an info Broker
No problem man. =) Just in case I sounded too aggressive, I was just calling out this guy's probable lies. Not gonna blame you or anyone else for believing him, since we never really expect any normal person to go out of their way to make this stuff up. =P
It'd suck hard if this is just a scam. I would like to try the ps2's online capabilities because I never have and if this is a scam, it never will.
Sadly it's looking pretty likely. =/ PS2 online stuff wasn't much different to today though, just less advanced and played with the old PS2 library. It sucks but I think even if this were to be a real thing, nobody would ever be online to play it; it would be too limited by the small group of people who use modded consoles and emulators who happen to want to play the same games online. You mean this guy? Well, my mistake.
I don't see how they would be able to add "cross-game chat". Unless it is only run separate from the game, the PlayStation 2 wasn't meant to have more than one program running at the same time.
Thanks for the extra info. We were already cautious over at FreeSO... See here: http://forum.freeso.org/threads/rebustin-out-the-sims-bo-online-ps2-implementation.1011/ I agree that he might be trying to get the OBSRV source, as I discovered when I found his thread there. I was trying to find a reason to actually fake this before but that actually fits the bill.
No problem. Yeah, sometimes the guy tries to use peer pressure, imaginary or otherwise, to get something. He tried it once re: a beta in my possession which is one reason why I've spent this time exposing him (again) (this definitely isn't the first time). Think he's probably had some troublesome involvement with beta collectors and developers in the past too. Thanks for the extra link as well as it's given even more insight into these mundane lies. Looks like he's made EA into the villain this time, along with one of his imaginary team members 'releasing the source code' in one of my earlier links. A nice way to close the story. This kind of rumour-mongering really piques my interest in the field of pathological lying. Well, it's actually hypothetically possible, but so very, very hard that people with that skill would probably not have the time or interest to do it. You're right that the PS2 only has one program running at one time; to incorporate something like cross-game chat would mean modding every game on an individual basis, trying to squeeze some rendering and networking-oriented code into the biggest space of conveniently unused RAM you can find. Alternatively they may try to use a game's native chat dialogs with a universally-compatible networking format. It's an insane prospect in general, and would take a ton of research. In fact the effort to do it may well outweigh the effort needed to make a new game altogether. =P
well hey, if it is a lie. then atleast it got exposed before anything happened (except the MGO source, poor MGO) plus it sparks discussion among all the communities about such a project. much like how a seed is planted.... now the only thing left to do is "Water" the "seed" until something comes up maybe I should annoy NTAuthority until he starts a similar project
Again spewing out things you have no idea about. Okay, well we aren't after OBSRV at all. Why would we? Don't fix what isn't broken. I've already talked with one of the admins of the project over IM on the matter. Its not going to happen.
Aye, again. Because I don't have a reputation of actually getting things done and actually knowing what I'm doing... Again, there is literally no reason not to release a video or other form of evidence, you are not bound by some mystical force not to.
lol my bullshit radar went off the second I saw this line: We are a team of 14 people who are all veterans in the game industry. Several of us formally working with Insomniac Games, Sony, EA and more, we have extensive experience with platforms such as the PS2, PSP, PS3 and more. That said it would be nice to have some sort of unified site for custom PS2 game servers. It's not going to happen though. DecoderRing did the custom MGO server code get leaked or something?
You confused me a little, I think you're referring to Ss4gogeta0? I don't know anything about MGO's server code, sorry xP Okay, we all knew this already. But seriously dude, getting straight to the point after these seven or so years: why are you always making up these fantasies? It's weird also how you don't make more effort to disguise yourself. You're one of the oddest trolls I've had the displeasure of bumping into every so often. Has anyone ever asked you to stop, so that you're not disappointing good fan communities left right and centre? I admit that I'm probably playing your game here, but it's starting to get annoying every time I have to be a party pooper and tell my favourite communities that actually, 'no, this exciting-looking thing isn't real, it's just that troll again.'
