- Edit - Okay, fine. I got hyped for like... nothing. Is this real? Now that i think about it, Burnout 3 should've had some remote server code, I don't think client-client connection is feasible, let alone "patching" it to enable online play. If this is real I'd expect someone from this team to come up with a good website and wiki that talks about the underlying technology.
someone on TIZ gave me a heads up about a recent FB post they released on the Page that is "working" on PS2.NET according to the post, the project is indeed real, it goes into a bit of detail about it. and Camjam/Cammers/whatever is disavowed by the team as being wrong or whatever. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1543285362634902&id=1493169710979801
Sorry man but this still isn't real. I have a ton of free time at the moment, so I'll just gather some proof. Let's end this whole thing now. I'm writing up a massive post to show clearly this guy's worryingly convincing public fantasies. The community deserves better than this. Read on if you're interested; otherwise, just be ready to assume this is all totally fake. But this is nothing new. I'd like to add that since I started intervening here, Mr. Rogers renamed and privatised his Steam profile, which is no sign of innocence. People like Mr. Rogers worry me, but I suspect this will never amount to anything more than internet drama, despite the possibility that Mr. Rogers may well find real trouble in the future, judging by his Kickstarter effort. On a final note, I want to apologise to the admins for raising this fuss on their forum despite my lack of contribution over the years. I'm socially anxious and am more of a lurker by nature. Game development, hacking and betas which have all been a huge passion of mine since I was a kid, and I just don't want to see this guy, or anyone else, deceiving the community with made-up history and retro projects. Meanwhile, -real- history and hacks crop up regularly here, and I love reading about it. But fakers gonna fake I guess. Sorry to crush the excitement =( [edited with archived links to now-deleted info]
I've lurked here for years and finally signed up just to say thank you DecoderRing - you have done some incredible work here.
It makes me feel happy, when I get to know that there are still some people here who still understand the technical details of what goes into a project, enough to tell a fake from a plausible project. Especially a PlayStation 2 project. Not to mention that your debunking so far has been very detailed and well-supported.
I think modern console (XBOX/PS2 and up) "homebrew" online gaming that mimics the original is a fantasy. Beyond the technological and legal hurdles, will you EVER get enough people online to play the games you'd like?
No way, me and my friend were playing Burnout 3 yesterday and commenting how on one of the loading screens it mentioned online play. He asked if we could still play online, and I said "No, probably not". But alas, I was wrong! I've never played that game online, would be cool to try!
Aw shucks, thank y'all. This. Also just the fact that no-one with the skill would really want to do so much work for such little reward. Multiplayer games need players after all! -- By the way, if any of you are on these affected forums and can help nip this in the bud, please do, and post a link to my last post(s) if it helps. Thing is, Mr. Rogers is the kind of person who doesn't stop until he realises no-one's listening and gets bored (a reminder, yes, this guy is in fact 21 years old, and has been doing this for years). Naturally he's still defending himself, and making up stories about him and his boss, etc, and even 'Felisity' is back, with newly broken English this time, because 'she' is legit foreign now, etc. This is fine and all, but if he's going keep this fantasy up I'd rather we leave him to enjoy it by himself with his alteregos. It sucks seeing this guy walking around leaving a trail of disappointed faces behind him.
You sir would make an AMAZING private eye!! Your google-fu is the strongest I have ever seen and I am blown away. Bravo old chap, bravo!!
If anyone still cares, thought you might find this funny. https://www.facebook.com/MintCookie-Games-1493169710979801/
