[PS2] POPS stuff & POPStarter

    Okay, I got Hogs of War running somehow. Using a weird PPF patch that allows you to select NTSC or PAL on launch (and also plays a lovely animation that may or may not be suitable for youngsters). This is great!

    Thanks for your input, naughty dog :D Hope to get many more games working too

    Edit: Ah, the save game menu is weird. It's invisible! I can still save / load but I have to guess where the cursor is. Will need to find screenshots of it for reference in case I manage to delete a save one day!

    awesome! :) just tried saving/loading myself but the game freezes before i get to this menu (the one which is invisible for you). might do it your way now too!

    Avez-vous pensé à utiliser les BIOS des PSP ou de la DTL-H3000 (ou autre). Ils aident beaucoup pour obtenir certains affichages manquants et éliminent des blocages au chargement d'un jeu. Regardez l'aide fournie par kHn dans le package de "POPStarter Rev13 WIP01".


    Have you thought about using the BIOS PSP or DTL-H3000 (or whatever). They help a lot to get some missing views and eliminate bottlenecks in loading a game. Look at the support provided by kHn in the package "POPStarter REV13 WIP01."

    DoDonPachi (SLPS-01364) ? I tried DoDonPachi (SLPS-01364) and DoDonPachi (Taikenban) (SLPM-80286). Both could be run without Mode 0x06.
    Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha + Mode 0x04 was confirmed by ElPatas. I've added the autoactivation to POPStarter for NTSC J, NTSC U/C and PAL versions.
    I'm now gonna try the others, including the NTSC J and PAL versions of Star Gladiator.

    Well, it sucks for Castlevania SOTN :( . If the random freeze is due to a side-effect or failure of the compatibility mode 0x01 (this mode is auto activated for SOTN in POPStarter 13 WIP01), perhaps I could fix it...

    The USB support will be activated in the next POPStarter build, with courtesy of Delcro.

    Next POPStarter will also contain a "little something" that PAL gam0rz may like : more than 160 built-in cracks for LibCrypt protections muahahah. ElPatas and I worked hard on that. There is a bunch of cracks for games that are still incompatible though, Crash Team Racing for instance...
    The LibCrypt crack generator of IdentRip gave us really good results. If no scene crack was made for the pressed disc to own, try making one with mah proggie.
    BTW, it does not work with games that have their LC routines obfuscated. Spyro 2 and 3 for example, I had to monitor the RAM and write teh cracks manually.

    Thank you very much for your hard work with the LibCrypt stuff, i still need test some of
    them, i bought the spanish version of the game Technomage, you can check your pm's.

    About Castlevania SOTN, one user said me some time ago that he played all the inverted
    castle part finishing the game without any problem, no freezes, its sure that the game
    have freezes?
    Well maybe in the other parts of the game it happens and needs to be checked.

    This is great news, thanks so much for your work on all this!

    Do you think that'll get us past the menu on Spyro 3? It always gets stuck before 'Press Start' should appear for me, the characters are still animated though.

    @ElPatas : Nice !!! I hope you have the needed stuff for reading/dumping the TechnoMage CDROM subchannels and that IdentRip could make a working crack.
    I'll check and answer the PMs as soon as possible.

    Oh by the way, does anyone have the Dutch version (SLES-03245) and/or the German version (SLES-02831) of TechnoMage ? I made cracks for these 2 versions, but I can't integrate them in POPStarter because I don't have the digital/physical copies of the discs.
    Same for the German version of MediEvil (SCES-01493).
    I'd appreciate if someone could send me the .kHn identification files of the above discs, which can be created by IdentRip (I'm not requesting the ISOs here).

    I didn't try yet, but I don't think my cracks will change anything to the compatibility status of the Spyro games.
    Anyway, if you want to try it out, here is a package of cracks that contains the ones of Spyro 3.
    Simply copy the TROJAN_0.BIN file in the VMC directory of the game. You can ignore the attached SLES/SCES files, these aren't externally used/loaded by POPStarter.

    Note to anyone who wants to play with this set of cracks : the cracks for Dino Crisis (SLES-02211), Urban Chaos (SLES-02071) and Urban Chaos (SLES-02354) are messed up and will not work.

    Is there a limit to how big the __.POPS partition can be? It seems if I make it too big, when I go to add games using ps2client (using LAUNCHELF v4.42e_HDD), my game list disappears. I reset my PS2 and go back in and the game list shows again, but if I back out and go in again, the list is empty.

    Awesome that USB support will be in the next version!

    The biggest partition that can be created is 128 GB if I remember correctly. I didn't encounter such problem after filling my 128 GB partition with VCDs, uLE just take longer to index and list all the stuff that is in the said partition (same for the __common/POPS/* directory indexation). No idea as for ps2client or a possible number of files/chars limit.

    On a side note, if a 128 GB __.POPS partition is not enough for you Gentlemen, create another one named __.POPS0
    POPStarter scans partitions for VCDs in this order :
    __.POPS
    __.POPS0
    __.POPS1
    __.POPS2
    __.POPS3
    __.POPS4
    __.POPS5
    __.POPS6
    __.POPS7
    __.POPS8
    __.POPS9
    and uses the first VCD that is found when your partitions have duplicate VCD names. The more you put VCDs in your HDD, the longer it takes to mount/search/run.

    Yeah, and after that, I hope the dudes will stop trashing our productions with hexeditors and crap, finally... despite 1 project cancelation and 1 more year to wait for a kind person to release his USB module, they still did not get the lesson, what a pity...

    Merci à vous tous d'avoir attendu que kHn sorte la version finale de "POPStarter Rev13" en USB (avec l'aimable autorisation du génial Delcro).

    Je vous attend tous pour contribuer à faire des listes HDD et USB qui soient le plus complètes possible (et le mieux renseignées).
    Il faut que vous suiviez les aides du Formulaire pour que les données servent pour tous les autres. J'administre les listes, donc j'attend de vous que vos renseignements soient le plus complet possible pour entrer une fois par jour vos données du Formulaire dans les listes.

    I made a partition 30gb and when I got around 19gb or so, whenever I went to add more games to my __.POPS partition, it would show no games. It's Weird. Thank you for pointing out the other POPStarter partition options. I will try that for sure.

    Someone is always going to be ready to steal and/or modify other peoples work, it's a sad thing. Thank you again for the hard work, I am really enjoying playing my fav PS1 games this way.

    Can you please tell me if you use ule-wip7? Cause earlier versions has bugs when big partitions was created.

    BTW about POPS new stuffs - is Crash team Racing (non-japanese) playable now?

    Let me explain, if you have a game that once passed through the mill "CUE2POPS" gives you size it is better to indicate 101Mo 102Mo. Similarly for a set of size 101,1Mo (to 101,9Mo) it is best to mark 102Mo (102 Size column) rather than 101.


    Why you ask? The cause is due to accounts that you can do if you have a DD small and you want to know the total space they occupy, your games to install on DD said. The account is easy to be executed by the file itself. Less you will make and the better error when you use "PFSshell" for your multiple installations at once {this is also valid for large partitions comers to 128GB (or 137Gi)}.

    I don't think so. CTR needs 3 fixes :
    - Boot fix (something that makes the damn game start, like I did for the Jap version)
    - XA fix (XA are played continuously and because of that, you can't reach the main menu of the non-Japanese versions. I didn't make such a fix yet.)
    - LibCrypt fix (for the PAL version)

    Non-Jap versions absolutely need a XA playback fix, because unlike the Jap version, they get stuck at the 1st screen of the intro (at the "SCEI presents" thing if I'm not wrong) after they're "boot fixed", and this is due to the XA issue.


    Star Gladiator... Yeah, US version needs mode 4 to run at full speed. JAP version too. I'll also apply it to the PAL version just in case. It's not that I didn't try the PAL version, I did it. But the NTSC->PAL conversion of that title made the animation so slow that I couldn't determine whether it runs at the proper speed with mode 4 or not. PAL suxx.


    Oh, while testing the 3 Star Gladiator versions, I figured that sceRename fails on SLOT0.OLD :$ . Certainly because my VCD names are too long so the VMC paths...

    EDIT : Yeah, confirmed. It happens when the VCD name is too long. Soooooo, it annoys me but I'll have to figure out what the max number of chars is, and add a counter in POPStarter, which relinks SLOTX.OLD to SLOTX.VMC when the limit has been reached :( .
    Why the $ONY devs decided to create a new VMC and rename it every time you save your game data ? Was the gamesave feature still experimental or they don't trust their own code here lol ?
