    Can you ping the TOOL?
Did you leave the TOOL on DHCP mode or are you using a static IP address?
Have you tried disabling your firewall?

It's in DHCP mode but I tried with a static IP and the same error occurs. There's no firewall, the "cannot connect" error is coming from the dsnet itself I think.

I can ping the tool and see the port is open:

    [spaz@archtop ~]$ nc -vz 192.168.128.54 8510
    tool.ps2 [192.168.128.54] 8510 open

Maybe there's some other package I need to update?

"dsnet" is the package, not a tool. dsnetm is the DSNET Manager, which is connected to /dev/mrp0.
Given that you can control the TOOL with dsedb on the TOOL itself, dsedb undoubtly connected with dsnetm (and dsnetm with the MRP).

Something is preventing the TCP connection from your PC to the TOOL from taking place.

Same thing happens on my other tool (which I now know how to fix the FW on :D) so yeah it's most likely something inbetween. I'll keep trying things.

Thanks for your help so far!

I had some more time to play with it and I can connect to it remotely using ProDG!

My guess is that some library on my Arch Linux install is too new and no longer works with the Sony tools... I'm going to try and test it out on a different distro to confirm.

For what its worth, the latest version of Debian worked fine for me with my TOOL in a VM.

Fedora (which is a Red Hat derivative) will serve you well. You can download a fairly older VM image of it and use SONY tools in it. Will work a charm.

Yup, the Sony tools don't like Arch. I actually ended up making a quick CentOS 6 Docker image and it works fine from my Linux machines now :D
