I finally managed to get my PS2 Tool to boot a retail disc. I selected at random "Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness". It is booting perfectly well, however it is booting (without prompting) into GERMAN. I'm right glad to be in, however I know from another PS2 Tool user, their copy of Jak3 booted into Japanese.

    Both units are UK units.

In debug mode I can see it clearly "Language:0000004"

I was going to purchase a laser (KHS400A) from Hong Kong, but the company still haven't emailed me to tell me whether they have them in stock. Matt was offering units at a good price, tested, so I thought "what the hell!"

No rush for a laser now. I'll take my time and ensure I can obtain a decent one.

Odd that the newer unit boots in whatever bloody language it fancies!

How do you do that then?

I've set the Tool up to run games using the very handy information provided by Port187. So in order to start a disc I just type "startgame" anywhere and off it goes.

This is just using the default startup, no special options are given... the default language should be booted.. so it's quite a mystery why yours boots in german? that or the development team was german and that is the default language lol ;)

Did you try (longshot) ./dsedb -nr ?

It's the only title out of 11 that actually doesn't automatically go to English on launch.

I haven't tried messing with them myself, but I'm taking an educated guess that u need to play around with the dipswitchs, as is the usual case with these sort of Dev Kit issues.

...Obviously, it would be nice to know what switch does what, so if anyone does know, please feel free to expand this avenue of thought.

When does it print that out? I've run about a dozen PAL/NTSC-U/J titles so far & I've not seen any comment about language in the logs. They're all booting to their expected language, too.

OE, are you referring to the dipswitches at the back of the TOOL?

I've tried all of my PS2 titles and only 1/3 of them actually work. Thankfully they are not just early titles and it seems to be a mixed bag. It was purely coincidental that the first 3 to work were from Core.

My dipswitches are set as listed in the PS2 assembly guide. 5 is the only dipswitch I have flicked (without knowing what the others do I am loath to tamper).

As for when the language details come up, you need to set the machine to show information rather than just run the title.

also, once the title is running in debug if you type "show log a" it details everything.

One thing I have noticed. Of the titles it is happy to run, if I ask for the history (just type "history") whilst the unit is running I see that the unit lists reset 2 100 and then immediately reset 2 180 (which is what UJ suggested), but I cannot force the machine to do.

RE the dip switches - has anyone thought of reading the huge bundle of pdf instruction manuals - they may be listed in them.

I think we are all wading through them either as PDF or manuals - they are like wading through treacle! :eek:h:
