I was wondering if it's possible to use the audio from the Multi-AV output of a PS3 at the same time that you're using the video from the HDMI port. The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about getting a PS3, and I have a monitor with a DVI input. I can use an HDMI to DVI connector for video, but that gives me no audio. Therefore, my only other two options are the optical audio output and the Multi-AV output. Does connecting a cable to the HDMI port disable the Multi-AV output or vise-versa? I'm thinking about getting a PS3 Slim, specifically, but I assume the answer would be the same regardless of the model.
You sure can. Set the video to HDMI, then set the sound to the multi-av (other options are HDMI or optical). http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/audiooutput.html In fact, as of the 3.00 Firmware, you can use multiple audio outs and the same time
I believe in the menu of the PS3 you can select your audio output. It usually gives the following options HDMI Optical and Standard Multi-AV. I use component and optical. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use HDMI and Multi-av for audio.
YES you can! I did this setup for a friend of mine because he hooked up his PS3 to his DVi-D-able monitor, so audio naturally went through AV out (he didn't have a digital amp etc)
