Wha? Since when have Sony "betrayed" any of their customers by selling a console they themselves lose money on per unit?
Like alphagamer said, here BD movies costs $35+, but I wasn't referring to that. Someone mentioned that Sony have dropped region restrictions this generation, which is true when it comes to games but BD movies are still region locked, unlike HD-DVD which Microsoft backed for some time.
Although all Blu-Ray discs say that they're region locked, most of them (60 to 70% of them) aren't. I have a PAL PS3 that plays some Japanese and US Blu-Ray discs, in spite of what it says on the packaging. There's a site here (http://bluray.liesinc.net/) that lists whether BD movies are region free or not, so you may well be able to get the movie you want cheaper overseas.... Dave.
Unorthodox, If there losing money, its cause of sony's stupidity! Sony screwed up so bad they can't compete againest Microsoft. Look at there rather shallow selection of games. Do you want to buy a sony console for $519 without tax, without being able to buy alot of games for it? What purpose would tha serve? If that isn't being betrayed what is? and $519 is todays price without tax. Thats the least expensive sony console, Good Luck! Here's what sony thinks, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi was not ambivalent about the pricing of the console -- he kept saying it was a premium machine, sold at a premium price. Want a PS3? Work a little harder! "Our ideal," Kutaragi said, "is for consumers to think to themselves, 'OK, I'll work more hours and buy it.' We want people to feel that they want it, no matter what." You know what I'd say to this president? Come back to reality Bozo!
$519? You can get them anywhere for $350 used (save the premium models, which are a little more expensive), or $400 new. It's not 2006 anymore.
You really need to do most basic of research before you post. http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1232392461&sr=8-1 There's a brand new PS3 for $400 after tax. I already told you the following was ancient, fuck knows why you've posted it a second time: You could easily save yourself from looking like an idiot by listening to people, you know.
My point is and was is the sony console is not the same price as the 360. Plus it doesn't even come close to FPS game selection. Why would I or anyone go out and spend even $400 on a game machine that has poor selection of console games? it would be self defeating. Also why would I want to buy the console on the internet and wait for who knows how long, when I can pick it up at the local store with a decent warranty and support? and meet the person who's selling me the console in person?
I didn't think such a thing was possible until now... Maybe it's just me but would you care to name this large collection of games that the PS3 doesn't have? Metal Gear Solid 4 Little Big Planet Resistance 2 Heavenly Sword Motorstorm Ratchet and Clank Folklore Uncharted Valkyria Chronicles Wipeout HD Eye of Judgment There are also a ton of great PSN games and then there's the games coming in 2009 inFamous Heavy Rain Killzone 2 LA Noire Uncharted 2 White Knight Chronicles MAG There are probably a few I've forgotten about too. Saying the PS3 is a poor console, not value for money, has a lack of games is untrue. Saying it had a rough start, it's expensive, and doesn't have the online features of the 360 is however true.
Well Unorthodox, Nice list, but keep in mind I'am comparing it againest the 360. I can go out and buy a 360 for only $200 and than buy an endless stacks of games to go with it from the the other $200 I saved by buying a xbox 360. Sony right now has lots and lots of inventory ps3 piling up of the ps3, there stock accoring to Bloomberg has dropped, so there losing more money, and now there building a ps4, Lol,Lol,Lol!
People seem to forget that the PS3 includes everything in one package. You may well be able to get an Arcade 360 for £130, but you still need a HDD (£90/120GB). Even the more expensive Elite (£210 - 230) doesn't do Wi-Fi out of the box, so that's more expense (£55/60). Add on to that a rechargeable battery pack kit for the controller (£15) and Live membership (£35) and you're on much more than a PS3. And it still doesn't play Blu-Rays. Same with the Wii: by the time you've added rechargeable battery packs and a USB-Ethernet adapter you're not far off the price of a PS3.
As _SD_ has just pointed out in the long run the to get a HDD and Wi-fi (granted not always needed) a 360 costs more than a PS3. Geez now you just sound like a fan boy. The PS3 is not perfect by any means, but neither is the 360 and I think a lot of people forget that. Noise of the fans/drive, high failure rate, having to pay for online and lack of blu-ray support are a few reasons why I prefer the PS3. Oh and for the record I also own a 360 Elite (just ordered Left 4 Dead) and a Wii.
Not to side with the nutter on this one but you can get a refurb HDD for £20 or whatever on that scheme Microsoft are doing now, and with a XBLA membership that's really that's all you need - and you're still way below the £269 that a baseline PS3 costs here. Either way I'd say prices are comparable, but Microsoft probably have more room to drop their price than Sony have without it really hurting their bottom line. Saying the PS3 has no games, at this stage, is just pure ignorance, though.
What??? You don't need rechargeable batteries. I use 4 for 100 yen batteries that last three weeks easily and that's with 2 hours or so each week night. Also you don't need the USB-Ethernet thing. The Wii is Wi Fi out of the box or at least it is here in Japan using the AOS system. Yakumo
I agree you don't have to have any of the extras. I was just pointing out that the PS3 comes with rechargeable controllers, a HDD and a choice of wired or wireless internet straight out of the box. If you choose to bring your 360/Wii upto 'PS3 spec' all these extras will end up costing a lot in the long run.
