Sony are making this available on launch day in Europe (this Friday? - my my, time has flown) and presumably in the USA and Japan too. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74287 It will be interesting to see how many PS2 games are fixed with the backwards compatibility update and how this affects first edition US/Japanese machines. Will they make an option to switch off hardware EE? Also we'll get to see the new inards! Bwahaha! :noooo: EDIT: The BC site is live! : http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/
BC is not good in some spots and not too bad in others. I did a quick test of the list and FFX & X-2 are reported to have notable issues, XI is not listed and XII is said to have minor issues. Yet God of War 1 & 2 are listed as Compatible/good.
hl718, Ridge Racer is Taucias fav. game. He places it higher than Wipeout.. *grin twice* I don't really care about RR, i just wanted to annoy Taucias (I don't really compare RR to wipeout though, both games I d play at different times - but then again, I d always play f-zero X over any of them )
Wipeout is better than FZero, but Ridge Racer destroys all interlopers and remains king of the racing village!
Here's a breakdown of compatibility on PS1 and PS2 games: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/breaking-down-the-euro-ps3s-backward-compatiblity/ For the lazy people: not good news. Over 70% of PS1 games and over 55% of PS2 games will have errors or won't play at all. Games that won't work at all (supposedly) include: * Metal Gear Solid 2, * Final Fantasy VII, * Resident Evil 2 * all the Ratchet and Clank games There are also noticeable errors in: Metal Gear Solid and Tomb Raider IIon the PS1 and Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, SingStar, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the PS2.
Well after checking the list I'm like 99% sure I'll import a PS3. I mean even if I got a PAL PS3 I still wouldn't be able to play my games >_<
I don't really see what all the fuss is about. Surely anyone looking to buy a PS3 already has a PS2, so why concern yourself with BC?
Well, I for one sold my PS2 when I bought my PS3. Since I have a US one it plays (damn near) every PS1/PS2 game anyway, and it's one less system taking up an input on my TV and a plug in my wall.
I m with Sonikku on this. I m a student, i move around a lot. I can't be expected to carry double the amount of consoles every generation.
Ive only got my PS3 here at school, so I can feel for any other students who dont have room. My roommate loves the stuff I bring, but there is a point where there is too much stuff
I waited until I settled into two-bed flat with my girl before I shifted my crap - sorry, my collection - with me to Uni. Space is limited as a student, and it's all well and shifting your consoles out into the main living aread so you and your housemates can play but when your VCS gets covered in orange squash and Galaxian gets a sun fade because some bugger didn't shut the curtains - that's why I didn't bother bringing them all down until now. However, that didn't stop me buying the damn things - anyone need 4 NESs, 4 PSXs, a broken 2600jr and a Atari 400 with no PSU? (bulk lot on eBay)
Found this today. It could have been about the PS3 launch.. some just don't learn ^_^;; http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2000/12/15
Ah the 1.6 FW release is out in Japan, I'll download it tonight. One useful feature of the new FW is the fact you can now download stuff and do other things... Yay!
