Well this is a reference to what epic said about gears of war not being possible on ps3 since it only had 256mb of ram as opposed to 360's 512mb of ram.
The PS3 has 512MB of RAM, split between 256MB XDR (full clock) for the CPU and 256MB of VRAM on the RSX. The XB360 has 512MB unified memory. Obviously Epic are using more than 256MB of RAM on the XB360 GPU.
They did this same thing with the ps1. Controllers without analog then bam, dual shocks came out and every had to have them. My friend gave me a controller pre-dual shock, a little odd when you're used to the dualies. I've yet to meet a true PS3 fanboy yet, being that I'm out of High School helps due to the fact they're god knows where and I'm elsewhere getting me some of that book learnin.
actually there was the Dual Analog controler before the dual shock, and that was taken off the market very quickly, and released only in Japan. Sony has pulled 180's before.
Theres no "pride" in here, they dont care if they look like complete posers or idiots for saying rumble wasnt a must, is the money guys, they know a new feature means a new price in the tag... I bet my weight in platinum that sony is going to keep the SIXAXIS as a pack-in controller, and the dualshock version is going to be sold separately and at a premium, so they can make even more money.
Dual Analogue was released in the UK also, I believe. Or make back the $100 million they're paying Immersion. Personally, I could live without it, but I guess Sony figure if they have to pay for it anyway, why not incorporate everything. Pft.
Well, just to play the devil's advocate here for a moment, Nintendo and Microsoft are doing similar things. Nintendo is supposedly going to release an HD-capable Wii and Microsoft is going to release their Zephyr. I remember a press release where Microsoft said that HDMI wasn't something they felt was very important to customers. I think Nintendo may have said something similar about HD, and they certainly made some sort of statement about the lack of a need for DVD capability.
and HD-capable wii is a something I wouldn't expect till the next generation of Nintendo console, Zephyr is arguably right around the corner. Microsoft did mention that HDMi was not something consumers would currently care for, with regards to HDCP, and made comment that the industry should know better than to enable HDCP anytime soon, leaving so many non-HDCP compliant device (360 included) in the dark. From the looks of it, Microsoft is giving the industry a faster track to move one by partitioning its own market into two major console revisions - I can't remember the last time that this happened in console history. Yet, one could say that the Zephyr is the third package offered from MS , making it a step above premium, not replacing it. Hopefully a price drop will come in effect and I hope the core console gets taken out of the picture too following a major price-cut.
