Some areas have had people lining up for the launch for a while now. After seeing a post that said the Circuit City here already had more than enough people waiting in line to account for their entire allocation, I decided to go over and take some pictures. By the way, this is the Circuit City in Rockville that is one of the six CC's doing a midnight opening with 100 consoles. Feel free to add pictures of your own lines to this thread. The pics are 1600x1200, so I am just going to link them for now: http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/1-front-facade.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/2-first-in-line.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/3-front-group.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/4-front-of-line.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/5-front-middle.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/6-corner-front.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/7-corner.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/8-corner-alley.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/9-middle-alley.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/10-dark-alley.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/11-end-of-line.JPG http://mouse.pouncingkitten.com/other/cc-ps3/12-fuzzy-time.JPG I tried to show my watch (7pm, 11/14) in the last pic. First guy said he was there since Monday, but I didn't think to ask if he meant this Monday or last Monday.
Pfft, you won't see me out there till the days of the XBOX 720! I'll try to take some pics of my local Best Buy sometime tomorrow...
I've some doubts about these people in line. Are they really PSX fans? I mean, some or even most of them may be just ebayers trying to get some stock. And I wouldnt be surprised if some of them are being paid to stand in line for others, like those chinese people in japan.
I have a hard time thinking that anyone who is going to spend in excess of $600 for a console can actually afford to miss a weeks work just to pick one up. I'm betting that most of those people are just going to sell and make up for their complete waste of a week. Damn though, it would be a bitter sweet victory once you got it home and realized there aren't any quality games to play...
Any idea if lines have started at the "normal" stores yet, or only these huge 100-unit extravaganzas? I can't get in line until 1pm on Thursday, hopefully that's early enough. I'm also going to a more out-of-the-way store.
What you should do... Print out the images of the PS3 box you can find on the internet and stick them to some random box so it looks similar from a distance. Take this in folded into one of the stores where the lines are, Put it together and come running out of the store shouting wooo I got a PS3!!!! Watch the carnage
What I'd do is get one of the demo boxes from Gamestop and drive by saying some other store broke street date and watch them scramble.
Make sure the box has 15 pounds of worthless crap inside to further replicate the true PS3 experience.
Here's a video of the Circuit City that I took pictures of: http://www.myfoxdc.com/myfox/pages/Entertainment/Detail?contentId=1487929&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=7.1.1 It looks like I scooped Fox news by three and a half hours. :110:
Don't you really wonder just how many PS3s sold in stores are just to people looking to resell for big bucks on ebay? If you only miss a day of work, even 2 days, it is worth it if you can get a 2000$, since most of us don't make 2000$ in 2 days. I wish I could get some to sell, but there are too many people looking to waste their time to make those quick bucks. I'm just focused on getting the Nintendo on Sunday.
Not only that but it would also be cheaper to pay some guy to wait in line for you than to loss a 2-days wage waiting for the console.
All of this waiting in line for days before the release will go away if a suicide bomber blows himself up in one of those things God forbid, of course...
The problem is that nobody knew when places were taking preorders, even the places taking them. I only knew about the GS/EB preorders because I happened to watch the 6am news (same day) for a few minutes before I planned to go to bed. The Toys 'r Us one was more well known, but none of the employees (here) would give any information about it until they had all of their friends on "the list". Oh, and there were already 15 tents set up at the local Best Buy (~50-70 people for an unknown quantity).
Oh lord, were having the worst rain storm I've seen this year. This whole week has been non stop rain but the heavens are opening up tonight for sure! Hot damn, those waiting in like HAVE to have packed it in for this, its just insane out there now. Its like a hurricane. Ill check in on them in 12 hours and report back with pics XD
