Please do Dot50. Those flimsy tents must be having a hell of a time in these winds too. I heard that there are 80mph gusts in places.
Can't feel bad. Most of them ARE just looking to ebay those systems anyway. If they don't like the conditions they can go home. If they are a real PS fan, they could always wait till there is more stock. You know what would be interesting to ask people actually buying the PS3 for themselves is if they have a HDTV to play it on.
Change of plans, My vehicle broke down so Ill have to get pics at 9:00AM when I go to pick up my PS3 at EBgames. Hopefully people are still around XD
Holy hell.... Pics forthcoming from my recent run-in at the Sony Store in Tysons Corner VA. Suffice it to say that a police helo was present and I spent some time hiding in the bushes (not from the helicopter). It was out...of...control. Cops were openly brandishing shotguns inside the mall.
I blame Jack Thompson for influencing the impressionable mind of America's police force into believing that all gamers are homicidal maniacs. Of course, on a launch day some of them are.
How do this guys do when they need to use a toilet? They just take a dump right where they stand or pass around a bucket or something?
I found some time to pull myself away from the PS3's 1080P hotness  to make a post about what happened at our launch. Its pretty uneventful, except for a register glitch which almost stopped me from getting one. I first stopped up at Best Buy but it looked like they let people in the store early, as I got there around 8:40, and there was a group of people waiting around. However other customers were walking in and out which was odd as the store opens at 10. Later in the parking lot I found a large puddle with someones soaking wet socks in it :-( So Im assuming someone who came for their PS3 didnt have a good night with the rain. And actually now that I see these peoples faces, these guys are the same people who tried to get me to sell my PS3 at ebgames. So Im guessing they were waiting outside to see if someone would sell them the system. Ok, so I head on up and pass by Circuit City. Noone is there, the store isnt open. Knowing the BS at walmart probably already occured at midnight I just went up to EB. I seen this other guy waiting in his car that was the first in line for preorders at our EB. I also seen a group of people who I didnt see at the preorder, meaning they were probably gonna try to get a PS3 any way they could. Uh oh. A guy pulls up to EB before opening, and knocks on the window asking if they have PS3's. The manager asks if he has a preorder and he says no. Hes turned away, but not after some attempts at bribery  The best buy beggers pull up, and pile out. They look desperate h: After some talking with uneducated people who talk about how the PS3 lets users make maps, and other content for any game they want  a dude pulls up begging one of us to sell ours to him. Hes scruffy, looks very very desperate and It was kinda scary for a bit. He eventually left after everyone turned down $1000 (If I was going to sell it, Id do it on ebay for 2.5K) I was the first one in the door, but their modem sucks and they had to reset it. After about 10 minutes of waiting they start talking about how an ambulance had to be called for Best Buy, someone collapsed  As I was leaving with my system, yellow jacket guy asked me if I wanted "hot cash" for it. I gave him a dirty look and left. I then went home and took this picture next to my new TV ray:
OMG!!!11 an N64!!! jokes aside, Nice tele set you have there mate. Your girlfriend must be a lucky girl for having a guy with such a big TV set! PS: I see you got the ResEvil collection, Pure Evil. Nice.. definetely worth its money. Any idea where to find one at standard retail price?
Ok, here is the mayhem that was the PS3 launch at the Tyson's Corner VA Sony Style Store. They had told us to stay off mall property until 6am, at which point we'd all have to bum-rush the door at once (bad idea). I was personally hiding in some bushes with a couple other people, and at 5:59am I jumped the fence, only to see that they must've let people in early because there was already a HUGE crowd (hundreds) pushing up against the door. When they let everyone in a couple kids got knocked over and trampled. The initial rush was about 2x as many people as you see in the photos, because by the time I'd taken these many people had decided it was hopeless and went home. Here's what the Sony Store looked like: The line shown here going down to the lower left continued for a couple hundred feet. They repeatedly asked people to form a line, which was obviously impossible. Eventually they just picked random people to recieve the NINE units the store had gotten in. Here are the lucky people: Apparently (I must've missed it) the police had to use pepper spray on people close to the door, because everyone was so unruly. They also had to use the larger "pepper balls" (dunno what those are) to disperse the crowd. I think this was when I was taking the outdoor photos, which are farther down in the post. Someone must've mentioned FYE in the crowd, because several hundred people rushed down to the store. This is when everyone was in line: FYE only had maybe 10 units, all pre-sold. Those people got their PS3s and everyone else was SOL. In order to get the people to disperse, they had to bring this guy over, who had a HUGE shotgun slung over his back.....and a handlebar mustache, lol. Here's what things looked like outside. This first shot is the entrance that was bum-rushed initially, after things settled down: As you can see....no shortage of police. Circuit City (right on the other side of that big parking garage) was completely barricaded off. The kids in the parking lot got units, and everyone else was told not to enter the property OR ELSE. I wish I'd gotten video of the initial scramble when the door opened. I've never seen anything like it. Imagine a thousand people scrambling to get at a briefcase with a million dollars in it..... People were climbing literally ON each other to get up the sides of the escalators, literally running on top of kids who had fallen down, etc.... This was the WORST managed launch event that I've ever seen.
WanganRunner, nice post. I can't understand how sad some people are ! It's only a games system after all. So far this is the worst case I've seen of nutters going made. makes the Japan effort with all the Chinese at the front seem like a tame orderly line. God knows what it's going to be like in Korea! I've been there twice and for the love of God they have no idea what a line is ! They just don't exist over there. Yakumo
Wagan thanks for the story and pics, crazy as hell there..jeeze. People are sick! Barcode, nope. Its just the players choice games anyway, no big deal. The RE4 demo was a mail in offer. Never got into sega CD
