http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ps3-now-70-per-cent-cheaper-to-make Pretty impressive that they can reduce the cost by that much, no doubt in part thanks to the blu-ray production scale increase and refinement. I wonder if this means a big price cut for Thanksgiving/Christmas?
Even after 70% it's still $200 per unit. They won't be able to match ms when they come out with a $150 360
$50 loss would more than be made up on software sales. Of course, they're not going to drop from $400 to $150
They need to make the blu-ray games less expensive. 75€ for a new release is not uncommon here. People buy a 400€ machine and expect to have all they need to get started. How can games be that expensive when they only last a good 5 hours (talking about Call of Duty etc)?
I can't see them lowering the price in the uk for any time soon. Not until they find more features to remove first.
I hope that if they cut the price, they still include backward compatibility, because I'd definitely get a PS3 that's half the current price and has BC...of course that's just wishful thinking, BC is probably the first thing they axe Just like Microsoft stopped updating their BC so they could sell overpriced Xbox games on Live.
If I was going to buy a PS3 then I wouldn't buy one new, I mean it's lost a lot of things since the introduction including... PS2 Compatability, with the worst excuse ever for removal... (So it's so extensive that they don't need PS2 compatability but not extensive enough so they feel the need to allow you to buy PS1 games... why play just over 2 thousand games when you can just play half that.) Flash card slots, not used that much but it's nice to know that they are there and you didn't have to use a flash card reader. 2 USB Ports, yes I know you can use a hub but that's not the point. Easier to use built in ports then have a trailing lead from the machine that may or may not power the things plugged into it. Super Audio CD (SACD) compatability, again not used much but it was nice that it was there and it does sound better then CD especially for classical music. It's removal is a bit strange as there shouldn't be a reason that it is removed.. Still seems like Sony will sell a lot of PS3s this christmas.
They need to make some decent PS3 games, rather than making a console that has few titles worthy to play on it!
As far as I've heard through the Sony grapevine, is that the PS3 slim will be announced at Cologne in a few weeks. It's apparently going to be available for this Christmas (I'm not so sure on that one) and will be more expensive than the fatty. They'll be sold side by side until current stocks of fats are exhausted. Only then will you maybe see a price drop.. end of 2010 at the soonest I reckon. Oh, and the sofware-based PS2 compatability should be available for release with the slim.
is sony really trying hard to lose this time? I thin that even atary with a jaguar 2 would have done better this time!
