Yes, another PS3 thread... only because I've search all over the internet and can't seem to find a good answer. Anyway, colors seem to be washed out when displaying certain scenes over component on my PS3. I first noticed this when watching a Blu Ray movie, "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead." It looked normal for most of the movie, but whenever there was an outdoor scene everything looked abnormally bright and washed out. At first I thought that this was just part of the movie, but I've since noticed it in Uncharted 2, again only in certain scenes. Moreover, I've played the same scenes in Uncharted 2 over HDMI on another screen and didn't have the problem. I've tried changing settings like the "super-white" and "full" spectrum settings, and it didn't seem to make a difference. Adjusting the settings on my TV do nothing to alter the washed out, ultra-high contrast look of these certain scenes. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how to rectify the problem?
PS3's component out is really quite poor compared to the 360's unfortunately. Properly calibrate the TV (Dont just 'change some settings') using the PS3 as a source, and it should lessen it, but bottom line is that Ive never been impressed by the component output of the PS3.
Well, after doing a little investigating, I found out that "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" does in fact have some scenes that are supposed to be very high contrast, so maybe this isn't a fault of the PS3. Does anyone know if Uncharted 2 has any scenes that are supposed to look very bright and high contrast-y?
Don't know about those movies, but I noticed at my friends place that the PS3 and the dynamic contrast setting of his Philips LCD TV didn't get along too well. When playing Assassins Creed and watching 10.000 BC on Blu Ray the TV was really "searching" for the optimal contrast so to speak, sometimes hanging on a weird contrast setting or lagging behind. The TV doesn't have that problem with other consoles however. I read about complaints of people where the PS3 would output hot pink instead of bright white in certain high contrast/bright scenes. Looks like the color output of the PS3 is wider then the spectrum of colors the TV can take as input.
