Its the first time since the release of the PS3 in Europe that its top the Wii sales. Stats for October 2007 in Germany: 1. PS3 37.000 2. Wii 28.000 3. 360 12.000 sold units since release in Germany: 1. Wii 389.000 2. 360 328.000 3. PS3 172.000 In October, Sony released the 40GB PS3 Version in Germany (and Europe of course) which costs 379€ in most stores (Wii: 250€, 360: 350€). The first 60GB Version costs 599€ but the 40GB cant play PS1+PS2 Games. I think the hype about the Wii ends now and there is a huge amount of Wii-owners who dont play with it anymore because there aren´t enough Top-Games... Not everybody wants to play Wii-Sports Minigames and Super Mario all the time. Also, Sony is starting a Series of TV-Ads for the PS3 with Assassins Creed (watch) and Ratchet & Clank (watch) which shows nice next-gen ingame Videos. Maybe there are more TV-Ads but i only saw this two. Also i think its interesting that the Xbox 360 sales are only ~1/2 of the Wii and ~1/3 of the PS3! 1) For what probably won't be the last time - the Wii has several high popularity games, including one 10/10 rated game - and it has more games I'll play than the PS3 at the moment. 2) The PS3 has had a price cut this month, the other 2 have not. 3) Uncharted has come out, which has sold a few consoles. 4) I'm actually quite impressed we haven't seen market saturation for the Wii sooner. 5) The Wii is out of stock across Europe. 6) This graph shows that the PS3 has no real hope of catching up without something truly exponential: http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php - even if this sales hike does something. The reason why the X360 didn't sell out the door is that many were waiting for the PS3, so I'm suprised that it isn't beating the door down - unless... *gasp* the games actually sell a console! Every console sold is $200 or more out of pocket Sony is - so they have to shift games. However, only one PS3 game shows up in the US charts - Assassins Creed in 7th place. Meanwhile, 5 X360 games (including Assassins Creed in 2nd place), 3 Wii games and even one PS2 game (Smackdown vs. Raw, which is in 6TH PLACE in front of the PS3's offering). How do people not get this?
Because they need every hope they can find to tell them that Sony is not going down  Their time has come. Move on and face facts I say. Poor old Sega had their time and gave us one last great console being the Dreamcast. Sony fan boys should do the same. They had a good ride with the PSX and PS2. Now it's time to let someone else in :110: Oh, judging by those charts the PS3 will never out sell the Wii in a year if ever. It won't even out do the 360 in total world sales. Yakumo
You can join Yakumo and myself when we celebrate the downfall of the Ps3 at the end of this generation, free booze, sex, drugs and a bible!
Yeah, when Sony die it's one less format I have to own to play Sega's games. Anyway, about Wii. Nintendo are being right arseholes with allocation of Wiis around Europe. In the UK they're sold out everywhere and I'm sick of people asking me when we're getting them back in-stock at work. Yet it's piss easy to get one from some other European countries because theres shit loads there. The only difference is the shape of the plug on the PSU... So send more to where it's needed FFS!
Think it's any better in the U.S.? There's nightly calls at the Wal-Mart I work at for the damn thing.
i never heard about Wii solds out in Germany. There are allways plenty of them in stores here in Germany. I dont think that the PS3 will fail... Of course, 2007 goes to Nintendo but i will link this Thread in "PS3 is most sold System in 2008"-Thread @ Christmas 2008... For me its the same like the PS2 which needs ~1 Year after release to become better sales (in europe).
I *do* think that Sony will start selling a lot more consoles in a year or so when the system is like $299 and they've got MGS4, GT5, and Killzone 2 on the shelves. I do not think that they're going to outsell the Wii, I do think that Sony will outsell the X360 globally, but probably not in the United States. Honestly, the biggest question in regards to Sony's survival post-PS3 is whether or not Microsoft remains in the game. The first Xbox remains a net loss for MS (as an overall endeavour) and it's been said that unless the X360 makes some real money, they're just going to pull the plug on the whole thing. If MS ends up completely out of the game, Sony won't need to beat themselves up so much to offer bleeding-edge tech at a huge loss, especially not if Nintendo continues to sell something similar to the Wii (i.e. simple older tech, "blue water" strategy, etc...). That said, I firmly believe that Wii will trounce both the "higher end" consoles this generation in regards to sales numbers and overall profits.
Microsoft are going to turn profit in 2008 according to the division's president (source), so I'm not sure where you got that quote regarding Microsoft pulling out if it fails. As for Sony - they've: * reshuffled their deck several times over the past year, * removed the head developers of the PS1 and PS2, * posted $200 dollars of debt on the original console incarnation (which would require each PS3 to have at least 8 non-bundled games bought with it before they would turn a profit), * only trimmed $50 worth of materials per system for a $100 drop in price, so the games issue still rings true, * exclusive hyped games have repeatedly turned out to be damp squibs, * multi-platform games have tended towards poor conversions, * hired an extremely incompetent PR department to promote the console * and hired the most artistic and obscure filmakers to produce adverts (their latest advert for Christmas being no exception) rather than going down the 'fun' route a la X360. We also should not forget that every time a PS3 becomes a supercomputer/science project/autonomous vehicle it's another hit against Sony due to all their revenue made with the games. Games are vital to the sucess, no matter how many consoles are sold. By endless promotions towards non-gaming areas, they are beating themselves about the head.
I can't wait! We can celebrate by playing Virtua Fighter and MarioKart online, after we speed run through Galaxy and Gears of War! :icon_bigg
Same old story on here "OOOooo Sony guna fail, Death to Sony yadda yadda.." Its still early days in the current Gen market guys. Yes Sony are on the back foot, but the games have just begun. Its going to be a much closer race to call.
yes youre right, its the same like always... its the same like when the PS2 was released and there was so many negative words written about it... For the PS3, its just at the beginnig and for the Wii, i believe it will be almost dead (in europe) at the end of 2008. Its not that i´m a Sony Fan or i dont like Big N or whatever, its just my realistic opinion.
Same here, Wii wont last too long other then maybe in a few gyms doing fitness programs. Also seems most of the Sony haters are Sega lovers. To which I say ... ;-)SEGA IS DEAD!! GET OVER IT!!! ;-) SEGA IS NEVER COMING BACK! LET GO!;-)
I'm interested in why you think the Wii will have failed in Europe by end of 2008. Everyone I know wants a Wii! Many people who have never turned to gaming before are buying into the Wii and not just as a Christmas present or whatever. They are also NOT just interested in Wii Sport, however even if they are it won't take a huge leap in Nintendo to release another Sports package, perhaps with other games or whatever. This is SO much like the Atari 2600 it's unbelievable! The thing I think Nintendo has in it's favour is that word of mouth is invariably positive, whilst for MS & Sony there's been a dirth of issues & bad press. Before the Wii came out I didn't really consider it a potential rival, but then again I doubt many people did. Time (as always) shall tell. One things for sure - in about 10years time we'll all be stumbling across Wii units in car boots sales and alike for next to nothing - they are the PS1 of the future lol
Yes, sorry, I got so much in a rant I forgot to include the flip-side. You are perfectly right that it is still early days - just over a year old in fact - and many of the highly anticipated sequels are still yet to come. Also, as Home is back in the lab for tweaks and Rumble doesn't make it to the West until March there is still a long way to go. I just hope that Sony will pull their act together because I really don't want the X360 to come 2nd in the race mostly down to the sheer stupidity of Sony's marketing and PR department. I really want to see the PS3 succeed (despite how my prior rant portrayed) because I know it has a huge amount of potential - and I sort of hope that it doesn't go down in history as a cheap Blu-Ray player rather than an excellent console. Also, we shouldn't praise Microsoft with one hand and slap Microsoft with the other. Be consistent! Slaps on both cheeks, dammit! We also have to agree that, at the moment, the oldest and only true gaming company is winning... and that's the way it should be. Not 'hey guys, let's take on the gaming market with all the money we've made horking difficult OSes / rebranded home electronics', these are the real kings. Finally, anyone who believes that Wii Sports is a fitness programme should really wake up from their fairytale dream - it's not. The reason it's so popular is the same reason Halo 3, Mario Kart, etc. are so popular: multiplayer and competitiveness. It's like saying that skilled cookery should be a part of the gym, as it is essentially using the same hand-eye co-ordination and effort. < / Nintendo fanboyism> - really, I grew up with a Game Gear and a PS1.
Hey, about the Sony hating.. well well well.. Personally i know SEGA will never come back with more hardware. But they still releasing good games , (almost now..). But men, SONY bitched the videogame industry a lot, now is time for them to taste a little of "pain". Anyways, i don't have time to hate SONY. If i got to hate someone or something that's without any doubt Bernie Stolar
