Yeah but as far as I know you guys have some pretty nasty import taxes, and TecToy was the only official manufacturer of consoles down there, and becos it had a SEGA license, well, I think you get the idea right?. BTW, did they made Saturn and Dreamcast there too? did they make everything there or they just imported the logic boards and put them in cases?
Without wishing to do a Concura, that's not fair to Sony. Nintendo revitalised a dead industry back in the mid 80s, Sega did a lot to bring games to the young adult market in the early 90s, but Sony were definitely the first to encourage games aimed at young adults properly and effectively. Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, GTA 3 later on: I don't enjoy the games, but they certainly aren't aimed at kids. The Megadrive was certainly the console of choice in my town, incidentally. SNES didn't even get a look in. I think there was 1 kid with one, everyone else had Megadrives or Master Systems.
They could have produced the discs here. But they imported. As for the hardware, i think they also imported. I think they only made the cases and manuals really. Anyway, their innabitlity to promote the Dreamcast was incredible. Even with all the taxes we had (have) to live with, they tried to sell the Dreamcast without the modem for almost 2 times the price of the imported one WITH the modem. After almost 1 year they decided to release the modem as an accessory. Plus i don't think they released more than 20 games for the DC. PrOfUnD Darkness probably knows better about all this TecToy stuff.
Even with the Master System? damn... Anyway, got any photos of brazilian DC and Saturn? or at least the boxes?
I have a Tec Toy Saturn. It looks pretty cool. Its basically the "This is Cool" Saturn only without the "This is Cool" logo on the lid. I think its a darker color too... but I could be mistaken on that end. Here's the official page for it: http://asp.tectoy.com.br/videogame/saturn/index.asp
I disagree, I think the bi console market produced a bigger possible market share per copmpany. In a the tri console war between PS1, Saturn, and N64 I think that sega and nintendo were busy battleing for dominance of the previous generation fan base which allowed Sony to snatch up the casual gamers and it fragmented the market. I'm not doing a good job of explaining it, but I see it kind of like the Bush/Clinton/Perot election.
