How is the upscaling quality with the new firmwares? Most of the stuff online is from the old firmware that made them look like crap. One of the newer firmwares improved it right? I got a non BC model and want to know if it worth the cost and effect to track down a BC. Thanks.
It works and looks great for the majority of games. However, I do not feel it is worth the extra $100 if you already have one without BC.
I'd like to know as well, any pictures or anything? A bunghole digicam pic would be good for me to get an idea. All I have is an HDTV and no room and it would be nice to get rid of the PS2/PS1. PSone is tiny but still!
I think it is, but I don't know if I should risk my save files, in case they're somehow tied to my existing PS3's serial number =/
I don't think they ever changed any algorithms in regards to upscaling. I don't know what you guys expect really either. Its just blowing the image up. Heres a shot from RE Outbreak, running through my capture card in 720p. When it comes down to it, your TV is the weak link if your picture looks poor in any resolution.
Well, for instance my TV the component inputs are horrible. I dunno why. For example, old Xbox games look like crap through component 480p as do Wii and GC, but Xbox BC (though it can suck) looks wonderful, so I figured it would at least improve it versus component/Svid. That pic looks good to me.
PS2 emulation always have lag: The PS3 is now be capable of doing the same thing as of Firmware Version 1.8, but due to the poor deinterlacing algorithm used for backwards compatibility, PS1 and PS2 games will lag on your HDTV EVEN if you output a 720p, 1080i, or 1080p signal to your display. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=558125 Haven't read that newer firmwares change it
" Although there is no real way to measure, and the numbers vary based on the HDTV. the average HDTV seems to lag roughly 6 frames, or 1/10th of a second when processing 480i material." You over-estimate things.
Well while the stats might say different I can definatelly feel the lag while playing amplitude. http://img13.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=dsc07806o.jpg im not going to say what I think about the quality. See for yourself. Then again They were taken with a digital camera but they should show the better part of what it looks like. The TV is a 1080p by the way.
input lag is prominant in LCD TVs anyway, compared to CRTs , no idea about Plasma. I like my EDTV WEGA just fine for older games. The colour pallette used by recent/next gen games is also with HDTVs in mind, which means something about older titles appearing upscaled-they look nothing like they would on a good EDTV.
6 frames of lag aren't noticeable in most games, unless you're dead-used to playing it - eg Melee or some shmup.
I play shoot'em ups and fighters, so input lag is a thing to care about; and I was talking about PS2 emulation on PS3, not tvs, I'm still playing on a CRT with my PS2, so don't have to worry about it .
Those shots look alright to me. Maybe I should show you what it looks like on my TV with a PS2/component...lol. Why the hell are you playing RE4 on a PS2????
