This problem affects everyone, reguardless of tv type, or cables used. Theres a long thread at neogaf which discusses the likely reason for this - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131102 But I took some direct feed shots to showcase the issue: PS3: PS2: PS3: PS2: PS3 PS2 Basically any game which supports 480p mode officially can get by, and look just as good as the ps2 if you set it into progressive mode. But god help you if the game doesnt, it will look awful and un playable in motion. However after that theres 60ms lag when using HDMI on PS1/PS2 games. This really sucks!
WOW that does blow, look at Ashleys Arm in the first 2 pics, thats horrid right there. Sony should be shot for doing this I was hoping it would be as good as PS2 backwards compatability if not better.
I really cant wait til they switch to software only emulation in the future. Hopefully they wont be stupid and will allow you to scale the resolution of PS1 / PS2 games as you can do on emulators on the PC. Someone from GAF has it apparently:
It would cost them much more to do a software emulator a la microsoft in order to support the huge list of PS2 games, than have the chip inside the box.
What's really funny though is that Wii owners can play a perfect version of Rez Evil 4 for a fraction of the cost. Yakumo
More here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoCD9TwLrVs&eurl= It's incredible that a the "powerful PS3" (as Sony always says) does not upscale or improve the graphics of PS1 / PS2 games, and actually makes them look worse, with more aliasing and worse colors...
I don't see them replacing the EE chip with software, because the RnD behind full Ps2 emulation is going to cost them more than the EE chip. The placement of the EE chip is what is refferred to as "past cost", i.e it has already been implemented and the consumer is paying for it. Considering Sony isn't making much out of the hardware of the Ps3.. I think their bean-counters would also be against such a solution, because then they would be expected to recoup losses of RnD through hardware sales
are you sure the ps1/ps2 lag isnt just the inherent lag of the tv set having to scale the non-hd signal for display, its kinda retarded that gaming is being hyped up on hd but tv manufacturers are just now really addressing the issue, imo
Yes, the cost of emulating the PS2 in software is high. But only in terms of time and r&d. Putting the PS2 chips into the PS3 is costing them for each console shipped, which is affecting their bottom line. FWIW i don't expect the next generation of consoles to have any backwards compatibiity. smf
if the Ps4 offers full B/C its going to compromise design and price to an unbearable extent in my opinion.
Actually Im not so sure of that, it was posted by someone else but I cant see anything like that. Likely its the tv the person was using but I just threw that in there as a few people reported it. However that issue with the horizontal resolution is awful and affects everyone. A ZDNET editor is now making an article and contacting sony for all the people complaining so heres hoping its an easy fix!
Or first person shooters Hell, my Dell 2407 I can tell a difference even though its 6ms (gtg). Had to send it back as it was too disruptive. Then again, a friend of mine who also plays FPS games cannot even spot the lag on the 2405 which is considerably worse. I guess its just down to certain people, though Im sure almost ANYONE can feel/spot 60ms!
