Ok so I have this customer's PS4 that will not "eat" discs, using the manual screw I can have it slowly slide in and it will actually read it. I checked everything I could change. I ended up trying a complete drive and it does take the game normally but the thing is that since it's not the PS4 native drive the drive key isn't the same and will give an error message when trying to launch a game. What on the mb can stop the insertion of discs?? Here are few details, when slightly pushed in the drive will detect the disc and the optical pickup will move slightly. Which makes me think that it's the commands telling the motor to go and make the rolls turn to insert the disc that would be flawed. I'm really puzzled.
Have you swapped the drive, but kept the original logic board? Because without knowing that info, it just sounds like you are assuming its an electrical fault, when it sounds mechanical
Yeah I tried with both drives and tried both boards too. So the original drive with "donor" board worked but cannot run games. New drive with old board will not take the disc. New drive with new board will also work but not lauch apps. Reason why I assume it's on thw board, checked the connector which looked fine... must be something else on the board.
There is a big Rohm chip on the board - BD7763? That drives all the motors including the load motor. Probably best to find someone with a hot air machine to change it, though.
I saw this once, the cause was a partial short of the motor that pulls in the disc, in the process it blew out the drive logic board, unless there is a way to remarry the logic board, and yes I have a hot air station and have worked on this type of chip before. System is probably toast if that's what happened.
Good to know, I declared this as unrepairable to the customer but will check that chip and motor if I ever encounter this issue.
