Kaz Hirai has confirmed that 'Premium Level' paid for subscriptions will indeed be coming to the PlayStation Network next year. There's no further details confirmed at this time, but it'll be fun to see how this pans out.

It all depends on what they are offering. If it starts being paid multiplayer, then I wont be happy, but if its more paid video content and what-not, then whatever.

As long as multiplayer stays free and they don't make those stupid gold only things like on xbox live marketplace I could care less.

According to a supposedly leaked survey, here are some of the premium content features we could possibly maybe see:
    • Customer Service Priority Access
    • Exclusive Experiences with Sony Brands
    • Extended Console Warranty 3 Years
    • Access to Beta Games
    • Early Access to All Store Content
    • Member Demo Sharing of Full Game
    • Cross-game Voice Chat Access
    • Full Title Trial - 1st Hour Is Free
    • Token Wagering
    • User-to-user Challenges
    • Free Access to PSOne Classics, PSP Minis, and PS3/PSP Themes
    • Discounts on Store Content
    • Member Only In-game Content
    • Trophy Alerts
    • Cloud Storage Space for Games
    • Online Music Service
    • Online Music Video Service
    • Automatic Downloads and Updates
    • Loyalty Program Rewards
    • Facebook Connectivity
    • Catch-up TV
    • Netflix Access Without Disc
More information on each of these is available over on Engadget.

I have to admit that some of this does sound really good. Free PSone games and Minis makes a PSP worth buying if you're going to be paying for this subscription anyway.

The only thing I want is for nothing to change on the free end. Well, I don't want to LOSE any functionality.

That's Sony's MO look at how their hardware loses features over time

I would rather be beaten by the RROD but after reading the features and taken in consideration that I will not loose any functions I have now I am actually excited to see this come.
