SCART carries both composite and RGB.

I think you mean "don't use composite"?

    I dunno. I'm lost now.

So SCART has RGB and Composite. What is the point in having all these channels in one plug?

Why not one cable for each thing?

We don't really use SCART in Australia as much as the UK...

    Because SCART is boom.

Nobody uses SCART for actual composite - just composite adaptors really.

A fully wired SCART is 99% of the time used for RGB. Although, fully wired isn't required. My Official DC SCART only has like 6 pins for example. Red, green, blue, left audio, right audio, ground - I think.

Isn't the Red Green Blue LA and RA Component?

EG: What is bundled with the Xbox 360?

Allows HD video up to 1080i/p

S-video isn't that uncommon. Many SD CRTs have two SCART sockets, the second of which is for S-Video instead of RGB. But yeah, RGB obviously makes the most sense. Composite is there as a fall back for devices that only have that as an output.

Anyone in a European or PAL territory should be extremely grateful for SCART.

    Yes.

RGB via SCART is 480i. RGB signals above that = VGA, also supported on the 360 up to 1080p.

Hes not talking about seperate red green and blue cables, he means the pins within the scart connector.

scart pintout is here - http://pinouts.ws/scart-pinout.html

Not all connections need to be wired in - scart can just be composite, just RGB, both or just audio if you want.

thanks for the picture. So I just have to solder a wire from the resistor to the second pin on the right side. Or do I have to lift off the pin?

Yes. Solder a small wire to bridge the resistor.

Or, you can remove it and just add a dab of solder there to complete the circuit and pack the resistor away.

Composite video is used as sync for the RGB signals.
