Thats exactly it, the handshaking signals are inverted, but if you use an FTDI chip in there you can change the settings using ftprog (http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities.htm), or alternatively use 7400 to invert them.

I am also looking to get hold of a copy of the archives just to see what was on that site.

    Good luck

It's a really good question- Perhaps we should talk to Assembler as I think his hosting allows for a little bit of immunity now as well, but to that I'm unsure too.

Anyone able to supply a pre built part so that i can just solder into my machine? having trouble finding parts locally, would also need a psone chip to allow my boot disk to load unless there is another way to go about it? Thanks

wow, it would be great to see the yaroze members site. could you zip all the files and upload it to Megaupload or any other filehoster? However I'm not sure about legality

I definitely have interest in seeing the contents of the Yaroze site as well. It would be incredibly fun if we managed to see a Yaroze revival with a bunch of people running modded psONE units. :)

    Regards,

They are for sale on ebay at the moment, someone has them for £8.99 with free delivery (the original). Although it wont boot without an access card.

There is a copy floating round the net that is badly ripped that has the access card check patched out. You just need to 'licence' it for your required region and you are good to go.

I will definitely do the mod. PSOne on the way.

Considering the possibility of a common source for homebrew examples, I'm in.
I'm currently doing some scripts to make SDK's work under Linux. It works good so far.

how about a port of siocons to linux? that would be fantastic.

The old version that someone did doesnt seem to compile under the newer kernels.

My PSXSDK ( http://tails92.sepwich.com/psxsdk ) already runs on Linux, Windows and a lot of other OSes and is open source and is at a quite good level. Soon I will release a newer version which includes joypad vibration, SPU support and a modplayer library.
Check out the PSXSnake and PSXPaint examples

Yeah, it used a /dev/cua device, now replaced by /dev/ttyS devices. Would not be a big job I guess. I feel too bored to do it myself, I just tried to replace /dev/cua0 by /dev/ttyS0 in the makefile and siocons.c. Got error opening the device in "raw mode", end of the investigating for me.

I believe DOS version of siocons can be run under wine (type "wine cmd" in a term). If it's a 16-bit exe, it could also probably run with dosbox or, even better, dosemu.

I'm currently more working on PSY-Q, but I'll switch to Yaroze once I'm totally finished with it.

EDIT : thx for your link tails. Pretty new stuff I guess, never quite heard of it. I'll guive it a try of course.

Just wanted to bump this because it is such a good mod / hack

If it uses the serial port, does that mean it will support link system with games such as Destruction Derby?

If that's the case, I would like to see this become a network adapter for serial over LAN. Eventually, the internet.

    PlayStation 1 Online anyone? ;-)

I don't personally like the Yaroze SDK. While it is fantastic, I prefer to use the real deal which is the PSY-Q SDK.
I would try this mod, but I just use the PlayStation with a Xplorer. You do not have to use the PIO port however. There is a way to use the serial port directly.

The board you have linked to would not be suitable as it lacks the DTR and DSR pins which are needed for the handshakinig. Depending on what type of chip package is used you could solder directly onto the DSR/DTR pins on the chip.
