Please don't answer if you don't own both - This is intended to see what owners of both systems play most, now that both have been around for a long time and have had some big titles out. So, which do you enjoy more, the PSP or the DS
DS for me. Mario Kart alone is better than any game I have on the PSP. And I can think of far more titles I want for the Ds in the near future than the PSP, including animal crossing, which I am hoping will be good when it comes (ordered from canada because I couldn't wait til March 31 over here!)
Go for it. Just try to avoid answering if you only ever owned one and so don't really have decent experience of the other.
sorry missed only own a DS.. but to my deffence I can say that I have played on a friends PSP and even done some development for it.. don't know if it count thought. in worse case just substract one from the vote
I had to vote for the DS even though I do play with the emulators a lot with the PSP. Emus/Roms can't really be included with the system because it's homebrew IMO. For retail games out right now, and only playable on the one system or the other, I give the nod to the DS.
Yep, I'd be inclined to say that if you prefer it due to homebrew then you should consider it without homebrew, because one day you will not be able to play a game without updating the firmware, which makes it a hard comparision
Hmm, well I have never done anything homebrew on my psp so I looks like I'm missing out from what people are saying. You know I have really good memories of playing lumines and coded arms multiplayer, but those days seem to have passed... No one plays at the moment. Still I love lumines, I love the UMD anime/idol discs, Guilty Gear, proper internet access, the screen and the analogue stick. Oh and pause anywhere BOF3/any rpg is all good While I love everything about the DS, except slightly weak design, it functions great - it just looks like a toy and does not have the style of the psp. oh but the jp red colour is the buisness. Anyway they are really very disperate, I really like them both, but DS wins as it does things I can't do on my consoles. All the games/umds may as well be running on the ps2.
Having played isn't really the same - if you just play once or twice You probably would go for the PSP, as it has the "shiny" factor. I'm thinking more long term than "I played my mates for 30mins on a train once...". A console needs to consistently release games, but this doesn't affect you if you only occasionally play it
Have them both, like them both for different reasons. DS = Original games, old franchises with new twists, and built in screen protection. PSP = Emulation, music, portable hard drive functionality, and crisp screen. But they both have their disadvantages: DS = Limited to only playing games, not fully backwords compatible, bottom screen uglier then top, and too many games that are gimmicky. PSP = Screen blurs somewhat, no built in screen protection, and can't use purchased games without upgrading and sacraficing many of the systems abilities. As such I don't like either more then the other.
I had my ds for about 3 days and gave it to my sister... then bought another one for homebrew exploits, and never bothered. The psp lasted a couple of months, but both systems are sitting in the closet gathering dust now.
My husband and I had a PSP and two DSes between us. Though a few weeks ago, he sold the PSP after we realized that the PSP had been reduced to an expensive MP3 player recently as there were no new games that we liked. We also didn't watch that many UMDs because it didn't fit our lifestyle. He never had a chance to watch them during the day, and when we wanted to watch a movie together, we wanted to see it at home on a bigger screen. Plus, the expense of Memory Sticks made us cringe whenever we considered buying a bigger one for watching divx movies. There have been plenty of new games for the DS that we enjoy like Mario Kart DS, Castlevania, and Phoenix Wright, so we have kept our DSes. We're planning on taking the money from the PSP and buying a GP2X. I'm sure we'll get a lot of use out of that. ^_^
And five days later you'll be able to load homebrew stuff with that new firmware, so that's no big deal. I don't see anyreason to discount homebrew or emulators if they're part of what makes a system enjoyable to someone. Your whole poll is based on subjectivity, so I don't see how it could possibly bee seen as skewing the results. Personally, I don't own either system now, but I'm considering a DS and that's largely because of all the great homebrews available for it and the GBA (and earlier Gameboy systems which are playable on a DS with emulators). Plus, quite aside form being a negative, I love all the gimmicky stuff like Trauma Center, Nintendogs, etc. ...word is bondage...
It is perfectly possible there will be games which will not possibly run on older firmware at some point in the future (in fact, did GTA ever get cracked? I don't keep up with the homebrew scene) Of course the poll is subjective, but it should provide interesting discussion. It is impossible to have an objective poll, you can just aim to get close to one. I'd discount homebrew on the DS if it makes you feel better, but no-one really uses it anyway (at least in comparision to the PSP) so it shouldn't really matter
i vote 100% for the ds.last month i had both my psp and ds stolen, and i was only upset about the ds.the idiots didnt touch any of the games so i sold all my psp stuff and bought another ds.i couldnt miss out on animal crossing.
Im not really into handheld, since, pokemon on the GBC, after that i couldn't play any game for more than mabey, 10 mins
